"mongolian and tibetan school" is produced by the xicheng district culture and tourism bureau of beijing. as an important place for the spread of marxism in china and one of the important birthplaces of the communist party of china, xicheng district has witnessed the origin and transformation of many major revolutionary events. the former site of the mongolian and tibetan school, located at no. 33 xiaoshihu hutong, xicheng district, was the birthplace of the first ethnic minority party branch of the communist party of china. in the past, a group of mongolian youths, under the leadership of revolutionaries such as li dazhao, firmly believed in communism and worked unswervingly for national liberation and revitalization. the stage play "mongolian and tibetan school" focuses on this red history.

in 2020, preparations for "mongolian and tibetan school" were launched. producer ji li introduced that the work was specially directed by tang ye and zhu shaopeng, directors of the beijing people's art theater. the first round of performances will be starred by zhang wankun, an actor from the beijing people's art theater, and wang haowei and liu tong, actors from the national grand theater. during the creation and rehearsal, the main creative team visited the former site of the mongolian and tibetan school many times, and went to inner mongolia to collect folk songs, deeply feel the scenes of mongolian youth's study and life in the past, explore their changes from confusion to awakening, and experience the real grassland style. in terms of solidifying the script, the main creative team repeatedly discussed with the xicheng district party history office, minzu university of china and other units, consulted a large amount of historical documents, and experts and scholars from the central academy of drama, the national theater and other colleges and troupes also held many discussions to improve the artistic level of the work.

"it is not easy to write a work like this that really touches the hearts of the audience. it must respect the facts and transcend life," said tang ye. at one stage, everyone often wondered during rehearsal, why such a touching story is not so touching when it is performed? so everyone fully "put the most real emotions into creation and expression, and only when we are moved, will the audience be moved." in addition, tang ye revealed that the work intentionally incorporated a large number of mongolian elements such as horse-head fiddle, long tune, and dance, which further enhanced the artistic appeal and diversity of the repertoire.
