recently, a parent in xiangtan, hunan reported to jimu news that his child's school allows shopping by face recognition, which means that the child can buy anything at school. the parent also questioned the opening of a store on campus. on september 6, the school responded to jimu news that parents can set limits on the amount of face recognition purchases, and that opening a supermarket on campus is not against the rules.

ms. zhang (pseudonym), a parent of a student, said that her child was a freshman in zhubugang experimental middle school of hunan normal university in xiangtan. after the child registered at the school on september 1, his facial information was recorded. ms. zhang also logged in to a small program as required by the school teacher, and used the program to understand the child's entry and exit of the school, and at the same time bound her alipay account to the program.

afterwards, ms. zhang received information about her child's purchases at the school supermarket. she and other parents later learned that children only needed to scan their faces to make purchases at stores on campus, and the money deducted was from the parents' alipay accounts. ms. zhang questioned the school's opening of a canteen on campus, and said that this facial recognition shopping method made it impossible for parents to supervise their children's consumption behavior.

on the morning of september 6, jimu news contacted a person in charge of the school. the person in charge said that face-scanning payment and school access control are the same system program, and all local schools in xiangtan have face-scanning access control systems. for the face-scanning payment function used by students, parents can set and limit the consumption amount through relevant programs.

the person in charge also said that the school has more than 1,000 students, including 940 boarders. since there are no shops around, the school has set up a small shop on campus to meet the students' daily needs. "90% of the income from the small shop is given to students as rewards." the person in charge said that the school has always insisted on rewarding outstanding students, and one of the ways is to give students "award tickets", which students can use to exchange for stationery and other supplies in the store.

in response to the situation raised by parents, a staff member of the education bureau of yuetang district, xiangtan city, said in an interview with jimu news that only boarding schools in the area have canteens, because boarding students do need to buy daily necessities, and day schools do not have canteens. the staff member said that the access control system for face recognition to enter the school is indeed available in all schools, but the face recognition consumption is not clear yet, and the relevant situation needs to be verified.
