The relevant countries will naturally be dissatisfied with the US's "long-arm jurisdiction" for conducting normal business exchanges with Russia in accordance with international laws and regulations but being sanctioned. The US's actions have hindered normal international economic and trade exchanges and damaged the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain.
Last Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed comprehensive sanctions on hundreds of individuals and companies in Russia, Europe, Asia and the Middle East for providing products and services to Russia and helping it "maintain wars and circumvent U.S. sanctions." The list includes companies and individuals from mainland China and Hong Kong. The U.S. State Department said it was concerned about China's export of "large quantities of dual-use products" to Russia.
Entities sanctioned for supplying machine tools and parts to Russia are prohibited from doing business with U.S. companies unless they obtain special licenses, which are virtually impossible to obtain.
The US's actions are groundless unilateral sanctions that undermine the international trade order and rules and damage the international community's efforts to peacefully resolve the Ukrainian crisis. In this regard, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition, which is reasonable and logical, and stated that it will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
The United States advocates the so-called "rules-based international order", but it itself repeatedly tramples on the rules.
Since the Ukrainian crisis, the United States has ignored the legitimacy and subsequent impact of sanctions, and has taken its usual means of "economic coercion" to the extreme, imposing thousands of sanctions on Russian companies and financial institutions.
At the same time, the United States has been constantly finding fault with countries that maintain normal trade relations with Russia, and using this as an excuse to sanction a large number of companies and individuals that have normal business dealings with Russia. As the net of US sanctions tightens, more and more Chinese companies and individuals have become victims.
Today, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has evolved into a protracted crisis, which has long proved that sanctions are not a means to solve the problem. Moreover, the US's "long-arm jurisdiction" has damaged international relations and exacerbated tensions and confrontations in the international situation.
Similar to the continued provision of ammunition to Ukraine, the US sanctions are undoubtedly fanning the flames, indicating that the US government wants to gain more strategic and economic benefits from it rather than ending the conflict in the short term.
A few days after the latest sanctions were announced, the US President's National Security Advisor Sullivan visited China. The sanctions may just be a bargaining chip prepared by the United States. But in any case, this has shown that the United States lacks sincerity in building mutual trust and has exacerbated tensions between China and the United States. China-US relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world today. If the United States wants to repair its relations with China, it should show sincerity instead of continuing to wield the big stick of sanctions.
