Now facing the challenges of many competitors, the M7 has once again started a new round of market harvest with new models.

On August 26, at the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving new product launch conference, the new M7 Pro was officially launched. The new car is positioned as a medium-to-large extended-range SUV. According to different seat layouts and drive modes, a total of 4 models are launched, with a price range of 249,800 yuan to 289,800 yuan. Yu Chengdong, Huawei's executive director, chairman of the Terminal BG, and chairman of the Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU, said: "The new M7 Pro has the largest space, best driving control, strongest intelligent driving and strongest safety in its class. It is the best SUV in the 250,000-level! It will bring users a more extreme travel experience and help Hongmeng Intelligent Driving continue to increase sales."

National SUV upgraded again

At last year's Chengdu Auto Show, Hongmeng Intelligent Driving brought the new M7 to the market. After its launch, it sold well and quickly became the sales champion of SUVs above 300,000 yuan. Cumulative deliveries exceeded 200,000 units. In Yu Chengdong's view, the new M7 has become a true "national SUV".

Today, the launch of the new M7 Pro is undoubtedly a redefinition of the 250,000-class SUV market. For example, in terms of comfortable cabin design, it not only provides the largest 3338mm effective space in the same class for drivers and passengers, but also carefully creates two layouts of five seats and six seats to meet the diverse needs of different consumers. The newly upgraded Shuyun seats are made of top-grade Nappa leather and matched with Shuyun headrests, bringing passengers a more comfortable riding experience.

In addition, the front seat backrests of the new M7 Pro can be folded back to 69 degrees, making it easy to achieve a nap mode for two; after removing the front seat headrests, they can be connected with the rear seat cushions to form an ultimate longitudinal space of up to 1897mm, making the beach chair mode for two people to lie flat easily become a reality.

In terms of driving control, the new M7 Pro is equipped with the HUAWEI DriveONE extended-range electric drive platform combination, which can achieve a 0-100 acceleration time of 5.2 seconds. The newly upgraded CDC continuously variable damping shock absorber provides three adjustable modes: comfort, sports, and energy saving. In conjunction with the HUAWEI DATS® 2.0 dynamic adaptive torque system, the torque distribution is intelligently adjusted to reduce the vehicle's roll when cornering and increase stability.

As one of the core competitiveness of the Wenjie series of models, the new Wenjie M7 Pro has also reached the industry-leading level in active and passive safety. In terms of passive safety, the full-dimensional super-strong body design uses submarine-grade hot-formed steel with a strength of up to 2000MPa, accounting for 24.4%, and high-strength steel and aluminum alloy accounting for 80.6%. In terms of batteries, the 38.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery has a five-layer structural safety design, five-layer battery cell safety protection and Huawei cloud BMS management to ensure the safety and reliability of the battery system. So far, the Wenjie series of models has maintained a record of zero battery combustion.

In terms of active safety, the new M7 Pro also spares no effort. The forward AEB automatic emergency braking range covers 4-130km/h, and the braking speed is increased to 110km/h; the side collision avoidance range also reaches 40-130km/h. According to statistics, from September 2023 to August 2024, the new M7 series has actively avoided possible collisions more than 260,000 times, greatly reducing the risk of accidents. As the latest masterpiece of Hongmeng Zhixing, the new M7 Pro is equipped with the HUAWEI ADS basic version of the intelligent driving assistance system. The system not only supports the NCA intelligent driving pilot function on highways and urban expressways, but also has powerful automatic parking capabilities, supports more than 160 parking scene recognition and remote control parking in and out functions, making parking easy and convenient.

According to test data from third-party media, during the 340km high-speed driving from Shanghai to Jiaxing, the NCA intelligent driving navigation function coverage rate of the new M7 Pro was as high as 98%, and the ramp passing success rate reached 94.11%, fully demonstrating its outstanding intelligent driving capabilities.

Selling good cars even at a loss

At present, the performance of the M7 series in the terminal is getting stronger. When "E Car Hui" visited the terminal before, it was learned that the order cycle of the M7 series is generally more than two weeks at this stage. After the launch of the new M7 Pro, it will also face the pressure of delivery.

According to He Liyang, president of SERES Automotive, at the press conference, the delivery cycle of the new M7 Pro is between 2-4 weeks, and the planned delivery volume in the first week of listing is more than 3,000 units; the delivery volume in the first month of listing is planned to exceed 10,000 units.

However, based on the application of more new technologies and new configurations, the new M7 Pro will also have to go through the test of cost control. As the head of Huawei's intelligent automotive solutions BU, Yu Chengdong has a direct understanding of the losses of the new M7 Pro. He admitted at the press conference that the loss of selling a car would be close to 30,000 yuan, which reflects the current profitability of the product.

In the new energy vehicle industry, factors such as large initial investment, long R&D cycle, and fierce market competition may lead to losses in the early stages of product launch. As an important product of the cooperation between Huawei and SERES, the new M7 Pro also faces the same challenges.

It is worth noting that although the new M7 Pro faces loss pressure in the short term, the hot sales have also brought about an improvement in the overall performance of the manufacturer, Seres. According to the announcement, Seres expects to turn losses into profits in the first half of 2024, which to some extent alleviates the market's concerns about the loss of the new M7 Pro.

Zhijie R7 makes its debut

At the Hongmeng Intelligent Driving new product launch conference, in addition to the launch of the new M7 Pro, the highly anticipated Zhijie R7 also made its first public appearance.

As the second model of the Zhijie brand jointly created by Huawei and Chery, and also the first coupe SUV model of Hongmeng Intelligent Driving, Zhijie R7 is defined as a "challenger in the pure electric world". The overall vehicle shape follows Huawei's "extreme, simple and pure" design principles. The length, width and height are 4956mm×1981mm×1634mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2950mm. It creates an elegant coupe shape in the classic SUV size to meet the aesthetic trends of the current young consumer groups.

The front face of the Zhijie R7 is complemented by the All-in-One star track fusion lamp and the active air intake grille, while the rear ultra-red 3D energy crystal through-lamp and smoked black sports rear wing show a strong sporty atmosphere and personalized style. At the same time, the world's lowest wind resistance performance of mass-produced SUVs based on the ultimate aerodynamic design further demonstrates its leading position in technology.

The entire R7 series is equipped with Huawei's "Jumbo" 800V high-voltage battery platform, CDC continuously variable damping shock absorber, air suspension and other high-end configurations. The longest range of 802km also allows it to enter the "double 800" era. The HUAWEI ADS 3.0 advanced intelligent driving system built on the Tuling platform uses a new end-to-end architecture to achieve a more human-like intelligent driving experience and safety protection.

It can be said that the Zhijie R7 has the basic qualities to become a luxury coupe SUV in terms of power performance, handling stability and intelligent driving assistance capabilities. According to the plan, the new car will meet the public at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show which will open on August 30.
