According to the Giant Panda Center, the male giant panda "Dai Li" was rescued from the wild in Baoxing County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province on February 26, 2001, and was estimated to be born in 1999. When rescued, "Dai Li" had a serious injury on his left hind limb, which was infected and festered. He was sent to Sichuan Agricultural University for consultation and his left hind limb was removed. After recovery, he lived in the Ya'an Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, and was later transferred to the Dujiangyan Base. He has been in good health ever since.

Since Dai Li entered old age, his health has gradually declined. From July 13, 2024, Dai Li's appetite decreased, and his intake of bamboo and concentrated feed became increasingly poor, and he almost stopped eating. The veterinarian conducted a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment on Dai Li, and the breeder also supplemented his nutrition by making liquid concentrated feed (paste). Under the careful care of the breeder and veterinarian, Dai Li began to eat small amounts.

On August 9, Dai Li's appetite and activity deteriorated again. Veterinarians and keepers actively treated and cared for Dai Li. Unfortunately, Dai Li did not survive and died on August 12.

After the news of "Dai Li's" death was announced, singer Fei Xiang immediately posted a message on his personal Weibo to commemorate him and thank the staff of the Giant Panda Center.

He said: "The giant panda 'Dai Li' (also known as 'Xiang Xiang') who I adopted for many years has gone to heaven. Once again, I would like to thank the veterinarians and keepers of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda for their meticulous care for more than 20 years."
