Shuanghejiayuan Community in Datou Street is one of the largest affordable housing communities in the city. It is planned to accommodate 7,160 households. Currently, there are 3,123 registered vehicles, but there are only 1,594 ground parking spaces. As the occupancy rate continues to increase, the problem of "congenital insufficiency" in planned parking spaces has become more prominent. It is common for residents to park their cars wherever there is space, in green spaces, and at the entrance of buildings, and for tricycles to occupy parking spaces. It is difficult for residents to drive to work and to park their cars when they get home. Recently, calls for more parking spaces have become increasingly strong. At the same time, some residents also hope to improve the green environment of the community. Some residents suggested that some of the green belts in the parking lot have turned yellow and withered, and have little ornamental value. Can they be changed into more practical parking spaces?

The local street staff said that in the face of limited space resources, if they are not allocated and used reasonably, it will cause conflicts among residents. The greening of the community is related to the living comfort of residents and reflects the quality of life in the community. How to find a balance between parking and greening needs is a new topic that the local government needs to study.

Fatou Subdistrict invited professionals and teachers from the Urban Construction and Environmental Protection Office of the Standing Committee of the Chaoyang District People's Congress and Beijing University of Technology to visit the community and find a breakthrough to solve the problem. Through on-site observation and data analysis, it was found that it was feasible to adjust the planting area of some boxwood trees and revitalize the space to transform it into parking spaces.

According to the plan, community and property staff visited residents' homes together and signed the "Shuanghe Home Parking Lot Renovation Opinion Inquiry Letter" with the residents. The plan to adjust the greening and parking layout was recognized by the majority of residents.

"At present, the parking lot in Area A is under intensive construction and will be put into use soon. Together with the parking lots in Areas C and D which have been renovated, a total of 204 parking spaces will be added to solve the urgent problem." Zheng Shuli, secretary of the Party Committee and director of the neighborhood committee of Shuanghe Home Community, said that after adjusting the layout, not a single boxwood tree was lost and they were transplanted to the green belt not far away. Motorcycles in the community also have exclusive parking spaces, and all types of vehicles can find their own "home". Parking is more standardized and resources are utilized to the maximum extent.
