At 5:30 pm on the 22nd, Guo Gangtang walked out of the court. When interviewed by the media on the scene, Guo Gangtang said that the trial was not pronounced in court. In court, Hu Fuji admitted that he had abducted Guo Gangtang's son Guo Xinzhen, but did not admit that the other four abducted children had anything to do with him, claiming that he was "framed". In addition, Tang Lixia had pleaded guilty at the first instance, but in today's trial, Tang Lixia also appeared in court to defend herself and apologized to the victim. Guo Gangtang said that as a family member of the victim, he had submitted relevant materials to the court and looked forward to the court's fair and just judgment.

On the 22nd, Gao Weixiao, the attorney representing Guo Gangtang and a lawyer at Jingshi Liaocheng Law Firm, told Red Star News that after the first instance judgment, the defendant Hu Fugui appealed in court. Guo Gangtang was also dissatisfied with the verdict and filed a protest application with the prosecutor. The second instance hearing will mainly conduct a comprehensive review of Hu Fugui's appeal. The civil part will not be involved in the trial and will be heard in writing. For the second instance, Guo Gangtang expects a strict trial and a judgment in accordance with the law.

That morning, Guo Gangtang mentioned in a video posted on social media that Hu Fuji had a criminal record, and the five children abducted in this case had caused many families to suffer the pain of separation. "I believe that the provincial high court will be able to severely punish these two demons in the trial of Hu Fuji and Tang Lixia."

Red Star News previously reported that Guo Gangtang's son Guo Xinzhen was abducted at his doorstep in September 1997. Since then, Guo Gangtang has embarked on a journey to find his son, riding a motorcycle with his son's information printed on it and traveling 400,000 kilometers to dozens of provinces across the country. In 2015, his experience was adapted into the movie "Lost and Love", and the prototype of the protagonist Lei Zekuan played by Andy Lau was Guo Gangtang.

In 2021, in the "Reunion Operation" launched by the Ministry of Public Security, Guo Gangtang's son Guo Xinzhen, who had been abducted for 24 years, was finally found, and the family was reunited. The two criminal suspects Hu Fugui and Tang Lixia who abducted Guo Xinzhen were also arrested.

The first instance court found that between 1997 and 1998, the defendants Hu Fuji and Tang Lixia abducted and sold four children, Li Hui, Guo Zhen, Yang Hao, and Li Hao, for the purpose of selling them. In 2001, the defendant Hu Fuji colluded with others to abduct and sell the child Yang Yu. The defendants Hu Fuji and Tang Lixia jointly abducted and sold four children for the purpose of selling them; Hu Fuji colluded with others to abduct and sell one child for the purpose of selling them. The actions of both of them constituted the crime of abducting and selling children.

The court sentenced Hu Fuji to death with a two-year reprieve and Tang Lixia to life imprisonment. Guo Gangtang and another victim's family filed a civil lawsuit in the criminal case. In the civil case, the court ordered Hu Fuji and Tang Lixia to jointly compensate Guo Gangtang for more than 500,000 yuan and another family for 1,000 yuan.
