The State Council Information Office is scheduled to hold a press conference on the theme of "Promoting High-quality Development" at 10 a.m. on August 19, 2024. Liu Haitao, Deputy Director of the National Immigration Administration, will attend to introduce the situation and answer questions from reporters.

Reporter: We have noticed that since last year, China has successively implemented unilateral visa exemption policies for many countries and implemented mutual visa exemption policies with some countries. In particular, the National Immigration Administration has introduced a series of policy measures to facilitate foreigners to come to China, such as optimizing and expanding the 144-hour transit visa exemption policy and adjusting and relaxing the conditions for visa application at ports. What results have been achieved with these measures? Will more policies to facilitate foreigners to come to China be introduced in the next step?

Liu Haitao, Party Member and Deputy Director of the National Immigration Administration: Thank you for your question. I just mentioned that the "China Travel" campaign has become popular recently, and it has also brought a series of policies and measures to facilitate foreigners coming to China, such as the 144-hour transit visa exemption. In recent years, the National Immigration Administration has worked with relevant departments to continuously expand the scope of visa-free countries and has successively launched a series of policies to facilitate foreigners coming to China. These policies can be summarized as "convenient to come", "introducing to come" and "diversified to come".

One is that the 144-hour transit visa exemption policy promotes the "convenience" of foreigners. Since the implementation of the transit visa exemption policy in January 2013, the applicable countries, ports of entry, stay periods, and activity areas have been continuously optimized. Since this year, the benefits of this policy have been further released, becoming the "traffic code" for foreign tourists to visit China, and also the "policy business card" of China's continuous expansion of opening up.
