Under Zhuang Chen's guidance, local medical staff also learned how to perform cupping and other operations.
Southeast Net reported on August 19 (Reporter Feng Chuanye) "Are you willing to try traditional Chinese medicine?" This is the most common question that Zhuang Chen, a member of the 20th Chinese Medical Aid Team to Senegal, has asked African friends since he arrived in Senegal nearly three months ago. Here, Zhuang Chen uses various forms of external treatment methods of Chinese medicine, such as cupping, moxibustion, ear beans, massage, etc., to try to eliminate the fear and doubts of local people about Chinese medicine. Nowadays, more and more local people like Chinese medicine, and the number of local Chinese medicine "fans" is gradually increasing.
Ziguinchor is the earliest base of the Chinese medical aid team to Senegal. The predecessors of the 1st to 11th batches of medical teams were stationed here. The local people have a special feeling for the Chinese medical team, and even called the hospital where the Chinese medical team was stationed at that time "Chinese Hospital". In early July this year, the 20th Chinese medical aid team to Senegal came here again to provide free medical services to local people. The Chinese medicine clinic was also very busy, and 134 patients were treated in just two days of free medical treatment.
Most patients come for treatment because of pain. Zhuang Chen usually uses cupping combined with acupuncture. Many patients give a thumbs up to Chinese medicine after receiving treatment. The good reputation of "magical Chinese medicine" quickly spread in the local area. Zhuang Chen's number of patients also increased sharply from 9 in the morning of the first day to 41 in the afternoon, and then to 84 on the second day. Many local and medical staff of the hospital want to come and experience it.
"What's surprising is that the doctor colleagues sent by the hospital to assist in dialect translation were also busy. Seeing that Chinese medicine is so simple to operate and the effects are so magical, they also took the initiative to ask to learn from me how to cupping." During the lunch break, Zhuang Chen introduced to them the basic operation methods, indications, contraindications and treatment acupoint methods of Chinese medicine cupping. Soon, her first batch of "foreign students" also successfully graduated.
In just two days of free clinic, four interns, doctors and nurses from the hospital have learned how to use cupping in Zhuang Chen's clinic. After the two-day free clinic, Zhuang Chen left some cupping cups to the doctors in the local hospital. She told them that Chinese medicine is not as difficult as they imagined, and that many families in China use Chinese medicine for treatment. These cupping cups can be left here, and they can continue to provide treatment for local people in the future.
After leaving Ziguinchor, Maïmouna Barry, an intern who had worked with Zhuang Chen for two days, sent her a message saying, "Maybe I can go to Dakar to see you if I have a chance. I hope you can teach me acupuncture. Are there any special schools in China where I can study Chinese medicine? I really hope to have a chance to go and take a look."
"In fact, it is not only these African friends who have received treatment who have had their cognition refreshed by TCM, but also myself." Zhuang Chen said that as a graduate of a professional course who studied TCM for seven years, she had always been troubled by how to better let foreigners understand TCM. But when she personally walked into the land of Africa, the difficult environment of lack of medical care and medicine in the local area was like time going back to the ancient times thousands of years ago. She once again realized that the practice of TCM is so "down-to-earth". A pair of hands, a needle, a jar, a spoon, may all be tools for curing diseases and saving lives. She told reporters that African friends responded positively to TCM, which is also a great affirmation of TCM. In the next period of time, she will continue to use TCM to solve the pain of local people.
