IT Home reported on August 18 that Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on social media on August 17 local time that in the future humans may be able to upload their memories and consciousness to the cloud and download them to humanoid robots.

Musk made the statement in response to a question from a Tesla fan about whether the brain could be copied to Optimus to extend life, saying, "Ultimately,You might be able to upload most of your memories and mental state to the 'cloud' and be able to download it into a humanoid robot. Obviously, you wouldn't be exactly the same as you are now.。”

Tesla first launched Optimus in 2021, with the initial goal of handling dangerous, repetitive or tedious tasks. But Musk later said that Optimus could also serve as a companion, take care of children or work in a factory. Earlier this month, Musk even said that if the robot participated in the Olympic shooting competition, it would hit the target every time.

Musk's ambition for Optimus goes far beyond this. He said at the shareholders' meeting in June this year that everyone on Earth may have at least one robot in the future, suggesting that the number of robots in the world may reach 10 billion or even more, and Tesla will occupy a considerable share of them. He believes that the market size of Optimus will reach 25 trillion US dollars (IT Home Note: Currently about 179.18 trillion yuan), far exceeding the 5 to 7 trillion US dollars of electric vehicles.

Musk said last month that Tesla plans to start small-scale production of practical humanoid robots for internal factories next year and expand production to meet external customer needs in 2026. Currently, two Optimus robots are in use at the Tesla factory, responsible for battery handling at the end of the production line. Musk expects that once mass production is achieved, the price of Optimus will be controlled between $10,000 and $20,000, which is lower than Tesla's cheapest Model 3 sedan.
