According to AFP on the 17th, a New Zealand diplomat was beaten at his home in Paris, France.
New Zealand officials confirmed on Saturday that a New Zealand diplomat was involved in a "security incident" in Paris. "We can confirm that a security incident has occurred involving staff at the New Zealand Embassy in Paris," a spokesperson for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The statement also said, "The embassy is supporting the staff involved in this case and cooperating with the French authorities. Out of respect for the privacy of our staff, we will not be making any further comment."
New Zealand officials did not disclose the details of the diplomat. The British Times reported that a 34-year-old diplomat was attacked by two men on Thursday afternoon who broke into the victim's apartment in Paris. The victim was tied up, hit in the face with a gun handle, and robbed, and then the attackers left in a stolen car.
The New York Times reported that the incident took place in Paris's wealthy 7th arrondissement, which is home to many of Paris's famous attractions, including the Eiffel Tower.
