IT Home reported on August 16 that according to a CINNO Research report, China is expected to occupy the first place in the world in this year's OLED market, calculated based on area.

CINNO CEO Sally Chen delivered a speech titled “China Display Market Entering to Next Era” at the “Display Business Forum 2024” held at COEX in Gangnam District, Seoul on the 13th.

CEO Chen said, “In terms of area, China has taken the lead in the overall share of the OLED market this year,” and said, “In the field of OLED panels for smartphones, Chinese manufacturers accounted for 51% of shipments in the first quarter, surpassing South Korea for the first time.。”

She predicted that Chinese manufacturers will maintain the largest market share in the global smartphone OLED market this year. She said, "Chinese panel manufacturers have strong display design capabilities and tandem OLED and other technical strengths." She said, "China has become the world's largest producer of OLED smartphone panelsBOE and Visionox are currently investing in large-size OLEDs, and Tianma and TCL Huaxing are also considering investing in large-size OLED panels."

CEO Chen also mentioned in his speech, “Last year, Samsung Display had the highest revenue among panel manufacturers. The top three Chinese manufacturers combined only account for 10% of Samsung's market share.。”

If this is accurate, it reveals that since South Korea lost its lead in LCD to China in 2018,Recently, China has also surpassed South Korea in the field of OLED, which has a higher technical threshold.

IT Home noted that according to the analysis data of market research company Omdia, in the first quarter of this year, Chinese panel manufacturers accounted for 1.3% of the overall OLED market (based on shipments), including small and medium-sized OLEDs. 49.7%South Korea, which has always occupied the first place, has a market share of 49%, falling to second place. Data from a year ago showed that South Korea accounted for 62.3% of the market share, while China accounted for 36.6%.

In addition, Yoshio Tamura, co-founder of DSCC, said, "Chinese OLED manufacturers are expected to suffer losses of up to 20-30%."And analyze that it is impossible to achieve profitability in the short termHowever, he expects OLED investment to continue, mainly due to government subsidies for additional production lines.
