The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has exposed the true face of the West. Even Switzerland, which has always claimed to be "neutral", has damaged its reputation and dealt a heavy blow to the world.
Recently, the Swiss newspaper Le Monde revealed that the government is considering revising its security policy and strengthening cooperation with NATO to enhance Switzerland's defense capabilities, which means that Switzerland will change its neutral position.
Interestingly, NATO is a military alliance, and the Swiss Constitution stipulates that the country must remain "neutral", including prohibiting participation in wars and transporting weapons to war zones. Once Switzerland joins NATO, it must abide by the organization's "mutual defense clause", that is, attacking one country is equivalent to attacking all member states, and Switzerland must strengthen its own defense capabilities and military construction, and when necessary, provide military support to NATO, including sending troops to participate in military operations.
In recent years, Switzerland has been able to enjoy a high reputation around the world thanks to its golden signboard of "neutral country". Once it abandons its neutral status, it will be difficult to get it back.
In fact, Switzerland’s credibility as a neutral state has long been reduced to “the emperor’s new clothes” amid sanctions against Russia and its repeated backtracking on its “neutrality declaration”.
