As a major vegetable in summer, cucumber has always been a favorite on everyone's table and an indispensable ingredient in the dog days of summer. However, the price of cucumber has risen sharply in some places, making many people reluctant to buy it.
According to a report by Sichuan News on August 14, the China Vegetable Association and several vegetable distribution centers in Sichuan have conducted monitoring and found that, like the rest of the country, in July this year, 14 of the 28 common vegetables in Sichuan saw a significant increase in farmgate prices. Among them, mustard greens, cucumbers, eggplants, green onions, lotus roots, etc. saw increases of more than 50%. After experiencing a sharp increase, farmgate prices for vegetables in Sichuan and most other parts of the country have reached their highest levels in the past five years.
Farmers feel the most about the rising prices at the farm gate. "The farm gate price of cucumbers is now more than 2 yuan per catty, which is twice as expensive as last month. The farm gate price of eggplant is now 1.6 yuan per catty, which is also 70% to 80% more expensive than last month." Xu Kaiyuan, a vegetable grower in Cheqi Community, Huangshui Town, Shuangliu District, Chengdu, still lamented: Now we have entered the final stage of summer vegetable production capacity, "otherwise we would have to earn 2,000 to 3,000 yuan more per mu."
On June 7, 2024, vegetable farmers in Tongxing Village, Dacang Town, Weishan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, picked and shipped cucumbers at the Yunshangzhidu vegetable planting base. Visual China data map
