Reference News reported on August 14According to reports from Rossiyskaya Gazeta and TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on August 13. The main part of the talks between the two leaders was conducted behind closed doors as per tradition. The talks revolved around the situation in the Middle East: the intensification of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the unprecedented humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip.

According to reports, Abbas said in an interview with Mikhail Guzman, first deputy director of TASS, after the talks that the talks with Putin were frank and open, and the two sides discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and the actions of the United States.

He said: "We talked about all topics of common concern to Russia and Palestine. Of course, this included the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip. We talked about what is happening in the Gaza Strip, how the United States views further developments in the situation, and how the international community should respond to events in Gaza. I frankly say that neither the Palestinians nor the Arabs agree with the official US position."

According to reports, Abbas believes that the United Nations has failed to fulfill its mission on the Palestinian issue due to pressure from the United States. He said: "Since 1947, the United Nations has passed more than 1,000 resolutions on the Palestinian issue in the General Assembly and the Security Council, but due to pressure from the United States, the United Nations ultimately failed to fulfill its mission and failed to pass a unified resolution to ensure the realization of the rights of the Palestinian people."
