According to Chris Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, developers have been told that Nintendo's next-generation console will not be available before April 2025.

This news has attracted widespread attention from players and developers. Nintendo confirmed in May this year that it will officially announce the next-generation console in this fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025). However, Dring said: "All the developers I have talked to do not think it will be released this fiscal year. In fact, they were told not to expect it this fiscal year. Some people I have talked to hope that it will be released in April or May next year, which is still early next year, not the end of the year."

Nintendo's recent earnings report showed that its revenue capacity has declined, and players and developers are waiting for the new Switch 2. The delay in the release of Switch 2 may have an adverse impact on Nintendo.

Dring also said that he does not want the Switch 2 to be released too late because everyone is looking forward to the new console, and he also does not want the Switch 2 to conflict with the release time of major works such as "GTA6".

The Switch was released in March 2017 and has been on the market for 8 years. By July this year, it had surpassed the FC to become the longest-lived model among Nintendo consoles.

Nintendo's first-quarter earnings report released this month showed that as of June 30, 2024, Switch sales had reached 143.42 million units. The company expects to sell 13.5 million Switch consoles this fiscal year, with sales of 2.1 million units in the first quarter. If Nintendo can achieve its hardware sales goals, Switch will be expected to approach the PS2's record for the highest console sales in history.

Nintendo needs to announce detailed information about Switch 2 as soon as possible to stabilize the confidence of players and developers.
