China News Service, Moscow, August 13 (China News Service) Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow on the 13th. The two sides discussed the development of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and other issues.
According to the Russian presidential website, Putin said during the talks that although Russia is defending its interests and people with weapons in its hands, Russia has not ignored the events in the Middle East and in Palestine. Russia has long-term and deep ties with Arab countries, especially Palestine, and Russia attaches great importance to this. He said that Russia is concerned about the humanitarian disaster in Palestine and is concerned about the deaths of Palestinian civilians. Russia is making every effort to support the Palestinian people and has sent about 700 tons of various supplies.
Putin stressed that Russia has always advocated a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Russia's position has not changed. Russia believes that in order to ensure long-term, reliable and stable peace in the region, all UN resolutions must be implemented, starting with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Abbas said that Russia is a friendly country to the Palestinian people and the two sides have always maintained communication and contact at multiple levels. Due to the actions and pressure of the United States, relevant UN resolutions have not been implemented. He pointed out that the International Court of Justice recently issued an advisory opinion on the case of the occupied Palestinian territories, clearly determining that Israel's continued occupation of Palestinian territories violates international law and must end its illegal occupation as soon as possible. He called on the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council and the international community to work together to stop Israel's illegal actions.
Abbas said that since October 7 last year, more than 40,000 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip, about 80,000 have been injured, and more than 15,000 are missing. He said that the Palestinian people will continue to fight and also hope to get support from the international community. (End)
