According to the Russia Today website on August 12, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin said in an interview with Russian media that Serbia should choose BRICS instead of Brussels.
Serbia applied to join the EU in 2009 and has been a candidate country since 2012, but the EU recently demanded that it recognize Kosovo's "independence" as a condition for its accession, the report said.
According to reports, Wu Lin told Russian News Agency on the 12th:“BRICS asked nothing from Serbia and offered more than we wanted. The EU asks us for everything, and it is no longer clear to me what it can offer.”

"We see BRICS as an opportunity and an alternative. Serbia is studying very carefully all possibilities proposed by BRICS and working more closely with its member states," Vulin added.
Vulin said Serbia was looking forward to receiving an official invitation to the BRICS summit, which is scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russia, in late October.
The report said that despite facing huge pressure from the European Union, Serbia did not join the US and EU trade embargo on Russia, but publicly pledged to remain neutral in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and maintain trade relations with Russia and the West.
