On August 12, the reporter learned from the Municipal Economic and Information Commission that the city’s first virtual power plant, which was put into operation at the end of July, has officially participated in the response to the peak summer electricity supply demand, and the maximum response to reducing peak load has reached 91,200 kilowatts.
On July 25 this year, the first provincial virtual power plant platform in the southwest region was put into operation in our city. Compared with traditional power plants, virtual power plants do not generate electricity, but are a set of smart energy management systems. Based on the Internet of Things, it integrates and regulates relatively dispersed power sources, power grids, loads and energy storage through information communication and intelligent control technology, realizes the coordinated interaction of "source, grid, load and storage", thus forming a special "power plant" and participating in the coordinated management of the power market and power grid operation.

At 11:00 a.m. on August 8, the virtual power plant started operation for the first time, participating in demand response peak shaving. The operation lasted for 10 hours, during which time 5 virtual power plant operators were called in, with a power of 45,600 kilowatts, involving 402 electricity users. During the virtual power plant execution period, the maximum load reduction was 91,200 kilowatts and the average load reduction was 42,000 kilowatts.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Economic and Information Commission, the virtual power plant launched in our city is operated in a "1+N" manner, that is, relying on the new power load management system, a city-wide unified virtual power plant operation service platform is built to provide resource access, qualification review, operation monitoring, capacity verification and other services for N virtual power plants in the city, realizing "unified management, unified regulation, and unified service" for the city's virtual power plants.
The operator of the virtual power plant stated that the power plant operation service platform will form a functional system of "full-process service, full-category aggregation, and full-scenario application", that is, the platform will integrate transaction and dispatching data internally and uniformly manage the entire chain of operators externally; it will widely support the access of distributed photovoltaics, energy storage, new energy vehicles, communication tower base stations, industrial and commercial enterprises and other loads; on the basis of the current realization of the full-process functional application of demand response, it will continue to launch spot markets, auxiliary services and other functions in the future.
According to the plan, it is expected that next year our city will promote virtual power plants to participate in the electricity spot market, and strive to achieve an adjustable capacity of 600,000 kilowatts of virtual power plant aggregated resources; by 2026, strive to achieve an adjustable capacity of 1 million kilowatts.
