On August 11, local time, as the counterattack entered its sixth day, the fighting in Russia's Kursk Oblast intensified. Thousands of Ukrainian troops have advanced 30 kilometers into Russian territory. This is the deepest and most significant cross-border offensive by Ukraine since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in February 2022.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops engaged Ukrainian troops near the villages of Tolpino and Obshikolodez in Kursk Oblast, which are about 25 kilometers and 30 kilometers from the Russian-Ukrainian border respectively.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova accused Ukraine of "intimidating peaceful Russian citizens."

Ukrainian President Zelensky directly acknowledged for the first time the Ukrainian military operations in Kursk in a video speech delivered on the evening of the 10th.
He said Russia had launched 2,000 cross-border attacks from Kursk this summer. "Artillery, mortars, drones, we also recorded missile attacks. Every such attack deserves a fair response," Zelensky said in an evening speech to the Ukrainian people.
