On August 11 local time, Christopher Steele, the former head of Russia affairs at the British MI6, said that there were "clear" signs that Russia was involved in the recent far-right riots in the UK, and security departments will pay close attention to those who have caused riots in the past two weeks.

Far-right riots

Last month, a violent attack on a children's dance class took place in Southport, England. Far-right activists posted inflammatory messages online, claiming that the attack was planned by a Muslim immigrant, which led to far-right thugs attacking mosques in Southport, clashing with police, and vandalizing hotels housing asylum seekers in Rotherham.

Steele told the media, "I think Russia's involvement is obvious. But the extent of the involvement and the consequences, I think, remain to be seen. The initial false information (spread) of the South Port attack did come from a website related to Russia."

The website, Channel3 Now, claimed the Southport attacker was "on an MI6 watchlist" and "known to mental health services", a false claim that was further amplified by prominent far-right figures.
