Recently, the final of the 13th National College Students Metallographic Skills Competition, hosted by the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Materials Professional Teaching Guidance Committee, came to an end. 1,898 contestants from 531 universities including Tsinghua University competed on the same stage. After fierce competition, Zuo Yuanbo, a student from the Intelligent Manufacturing College of Zhengzhou City Vocational College, won the highest honor and won the first prize in the national competition.
The National College Students Metallographic Skills Competition was initiated by Tsinghua University and co-sponsored by Beijing University of Science and Technology, Central South University and other universities. It is one of the 84 competition projects in the national ranking of college students' subject competitions in ordinary colleges and universities. It is the national college student subject competition with the highest specifications, the most complete system, the largest scale and the widest influence in materials and mechanical majors.
In the competition, contestants draw two samples from three types of samples, namely 20 steel, industrial pure iron and ductile iron, as the final samples. For the designated metal samples, contestants must complete the grinding, polishing, etching and other processes on the designated end faces within 30 minutes, and finally prepare a clean, flat microstructure that can be clearly observed under a metallographic microscope. The judges will evaluate the contestants' practical skills from three aspects: metallographic image quality, observation surface cleanliness, and observation surface flatness, combined with the operating specifications during the competition.

Metallographic skills are a basic skill that students majoring in materials and mechanics must master, and are the key to understanding materials. The competition improves students' professional skills, craftsmanship, artistic aesthetics and scientific literacy through the "competition instead of training" model, builds a good communication platform for college students majoring in materials and related majors across the country, and guides college students to strive to become highly skilled talents who are proficient in one skill and specialized in one industry.
The Metallographic Competition aims to develop new quality productivity in materials science and promote the urgent need for high-quality talents in China's modernization drive, and strives to be conducive to teaching reform, teacher development, and student success.
The full support of the school, the careful guidance of the instructors, and the hard work of the students have jointly created this glorious moment. The students of our School of Intelligent Manufacturing have fully demonstrated their talents and strengths in the fierce competition of this game.
In the future, Zhengzhou City Vocational College will focus on cultivating students' craftsman spirit of "persistence, excellence, meticulousness and pursuit of excellence", constantly explore new teaching methods and means, continuously improve the quality of talent training, and contribute more wisdom and strength to the cause of education.
