On the morning of August 12, the classic Hong Kong movie "The God of Cookery" released in 1996 released a new trailer and officially announced that it will be released in mainland China on August 31, which attracted public attention.

The film was released in Hong Kong in 1996, but was not released in mainland cinemas at that time, so this is the first time it has been released in mainland China in 28 years. The trailer presents a variety of "Stephen Chow-style" nonsensical jokes, such as the 18 bronze men in Shaolin Temple, the "bursting pissing beef balls" that can be used to play table tennis, the simple "Sad and Sad Rice", the mysterious sword techniques of "Yitian Cut" and "Dragon Slaying", etc.

Many fans expressed their expectations in the comment section, saying "Do you dare to put Stephen Chow's other movies up there?" and "I'll buy a movie ticket when it's released. I hope there won't be too many cuts."

The film's director Lee Lik-Chi also expressed his anticipation on social media, saying, "It would be even better if there was a Cantonese version."

According to public information, the film is directed by Stephen Chow and Lee Lik-chi, and starred by Stephen Chow, Karen Mok, Nancy Sit, Ng Man-tat, and Stephen Chow. It tells the story of Stephen Chow (played by Stephen Chow), who was once a famous god of food. He was always arrogant and profit-seeking. One day, he was framed by his assistant and lost everything overnight. After falling from the altar, Stephen was rescued by the big sister Turkey (played by Karen Mok), and together with a group of folk chefs, they decided to launch the "Exploding Bull Balls" and tried to regain the position of the God of Food through hard work.

Different from Stephen Chow's previous likable screen image, in "The God of Cookery", at first, the character he played was arrogant and almost a villain.

According to the official website of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society, film critic Si Ling commented that Stephen Chow's "The God of Cookery" reflects Stephen Chow's ambition to constantly seek change. In addition to using food as an important element and making the cooking of meat and vegetables interesting and mythologized, what is more special is that he broke with the old ways and made bold attempts in the role, abandoning the image of the secretive, ingratiating and approachable little man that he had worked so hard to cultivate, and instead appeared in the role of a more negative profiteer, a catering industry tycoon who exploited the little people, "trying to test the audience's acceptance capacity in an unconventional way from the beginning."

"In the middle part, he made a comeback with his own creation 'Beef Balls'. In his nature, he was not influenced by Karen Mok's friendship. It was not until the end in Shaolin Temple that he realized his conscience and regained his true feelings. The character changed from evil to good, and from evil to good, but in most cases, Sing Zai seemed to have no intention of pleasing and catering to the audience's consistent taste for his image, reflecting his willful creative desire."

However, the critic also pointed out that the drama rhythm of "The God of Cookery" is too fast: "The first part mocks the hypocritical entrepreneurs, the middle part describes the common people's friendship among the hooligans in Temple Street, and the God of Cookery competition in the last part, all of which are intended to write about the characters, but they are superficial. Xingzai's self-reflection process was glossed over, and the space was insufficient, which is a pity."
