According to TASS on August 11, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was in charge of strategic affairs and advocated negotiations with the United States, resigned just 10 days after taking office. He served as Iran's foreign minister from 2013 to 2021.
Zarif reportedly wrote on the social platform X: "I am dissatisfied with the results of my work (as chairman of the advisory committee for the formation of the new cabinet), and other problems have forced me to choose to continue my path at the university."

The report said Zarif was referring to the advisory committee he led after Massoud Pezerhiziyan won the Iranian presidential election on July 5. Zarif was responsible for selecting nominees for the new cabinet, and the list was submitted to the Iranian parliament for approval on August 11.
Zarif is considered a major proponent of dialogue with the United States, for which he has been criticized by Iran's conservatives. The diplomat was actively involved in the drafting and signing of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and has held talks with the U.S. Secretary of State and other U.S. officials on several occasions.
It is reported that after Pezhichyan won the Iranian presidential election, Zarif issued a statement saying that the new president is willing to restore the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (ie, the Iran nuclear agreement).
