According to a report by Japan's Mainichi Shimbun on the 11th, in July this year, a child was riding a flamingo-shaped floating toy at a beach in Fukuoka, Japan, and was overturned by the waves. Due to many accidents involving riding animal-shaped floating toys, the relevant Japanese authorities conducted a test to determine whether floating toys of different shapes were affected differently by the wind. The results showed that bird-shaped floating toys were most affected by the wind and drifted the fastest. Experts analyzed that this was because the three-dimensional shape of the bird-shaped floating toy exposed a larger surface area to the wind.
The Japan Inflatable Plastic Products Manufacturers Association said that animal-shaped floating toys are labeled with a "safety toy logo" to indicate that they are toys rather than life-saving equipment and should be used in waters where feet can touch the bottom. To prevent similar accidents from happening again, experts recommend that the age of users of floating toys should be checked before using them and that they wear life jackets, and that parents should also take good care of their children.
