Reference News reported on August 11According to AFP on August 11, the head of Australia's intelligence agency accused some friendly countries of carrying out interference operations in the country on the 11th, and said that people would be surprised if the identities of these countries were revealed.
Australia accused Iran of interfering in its campaign last year and said its intelligence agencies had blocked "several individuals" from monitoring the home of an Iranian-Australian.
Australian Security Intelligence Agency director-general Mike Burgess said other countries were also secretly trying to interfere in Australia's political system and immigrant population.
"We have identified at least three or four (countries) that have been involved in interference with Australia's immigrant population," Burgess told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
"Some of these (countries) will surprise you. Some of them are our friends," he said.
Burgess declined to identify the countries, other than to confirm the administration's allegations that Iran was involved in the interference.
Burgess said foreign interference, espionage and politically motivated violence are Australia's main security concerns. (Compiled by Xiong Wenyuan)
