According to the WeChat public account "Shanghai Online Rumor Refutation", someone recently forwarded the information on WeChat Moments that "Huashan Hospital has vacated Building 5 to specifically treat COVID-19 patients" and "Zhang Wenhong recommends that retired elderly people do not go to square dance during this period... and stay at home for a month".

On the morning of August 10, Professor Zhang Wenhong, director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases and director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, said that this was fake news. The same WeChat Moments message first appeared in December 2022 and then in April 2023. Almost every year, someone posts the same fake news.

Zhang Wenhong said that in response to the current topics of concern to some netizens, the WeChat public account "Huashan Infection" just published an article on the morning of the 10th. Through the analysis of respiratory infectious disease monitoring data and Professor Zhang Wenhong's comments, this article believes that the current respiratory infections such as the new coronavirus are in the normal fluctuation range. Since early June, the proportion of some mutant strains has gradually increased, but it has not caused an increase in severe cases. The overall number of patients seeking medical treatment this time is still lower than the peak in autumn and winter last year, and will not cause a serious disease burden on current medical resources and populations.
