Original title: B&B awakens "sleeping resources" at the foot of the Great Wall

Shixia Village is located at the foot of the Shixiaguan Great Wall in Yanqing District, Beijing, and 5 kilometers southwest of the Badaling Great Wall Scenic Area. It is surrounded by mountains, deep valleys, and narrow passes. The Great Wall is connected to each other, and the forts are facing each other, which are preserved in their original state. Almost all the walls are built with rough stones, and some are mixed with blue bricks from the Great Wall. The traces of life have been left on these surfaces over time. This is a place with stories.
In 2016, designer Xue Song was invited to Shixia Village to design a homestay - Shiguang Great Wall. Xue Song's team sorted out the relationship between the homestay and the village. The east side of the village is the only road connected to the outside world. There are several alleys in the village connected to it. The courtyard of the homestay is intertwined with the original courtyard. The general design follows the texture of the village and is still formed along the existing streets. How to face this typical natural growth village? Protect, inspire, implant, reconstruct, the team finally decided to give up the God's perspective to "design".
The design team learned that some old people in the village still mastered the skills of rough stone masonry, and a large amount of raw stone was mined in the highway tunnel project a few kilometers away. The rough stone wall was the first building material that was quickly determined. They decided to choose the main structure - rough stone wall + wooden structure, a hybrid structure, derived from natural and reusable materials. Xue Song imagined a series of life scenes in the way of a screenwriter - eating and drinking outdoors, tourists and villagers greeted each other and chatted, children chased and played, villagers showed tourists the way, the semi-public space of the homestay illuminated the village lanes at night, villagers and tourists watched open-air movies together, the designer who came to the team building shared a small architectural class with the villagers, and the villagers presented seasonal fruits and vegetables...
In addition, the designer made full use of the local rough stone resources and masonry craftsmanship, combining the rough rough stone walls with the warm and delicate wooden structure roof in the interior design, creating a comfortable living space that is close to nature but not without a modern feel, giving people a primitive and warm feeling. "As a designer, we feel extremely honored to be able to personally participate in the rural construction work of Shixia Village and practice the path of green waters and green mountains being gold and silver mountains. We will continue on this path in the future and forge ahead!" Xue Song said with emotion.
It is reported that at present, there are more than 370 high-quality homestays in Yanqing District, which have attracted more than 700 local jobs and driven the growth of people's wage income by more than 23 million yuan. In the future, Yanqing will continue to develop the "Great Wall + Homestay" cultural and tourism integration model, discover and tell the story of the Great Wall, and enable more villagers to embark on the road to prosperity.
