[Global Times Report] According to The Times of Israel on August 7, three diplomatic officials from mediating countries told The Times of Israel that in the negotiations on a ceasefire and hostage release agreement, the Israeli negotiating team lacked credibility, and Netanyahu's inconsistency damaged Israel's credibility.

According to the report, officials said that throughout the talks, Israeli negotiators repeatedly assured Qatar, Egypt and the US mediators that Israel was ready to accept some of the content of the agreement. But the Israeli representatives withdrew these promises "after consultation with Netanyahu." Officials said that after the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) made certain concessions, the Israeli negotiating team said it was possible to reach an agreement, but Netanyahu then put forward a series of new demands in late July.

“The Israeli negotiator would tell the mediator one thing in the room, and then Netanyahu would say the opposite in public,” one of the diplomats told The Times of Israel. Another diplomat said the Israeli negotiator would tell the mediator that Netanyahu’s comments were meant for domestic audiences but affected the talks, which led Hamas and the mediators to doubt Israel’s intentions.

The Times of Israel reported that the diplomats said that in the spring, the mediators believed that Hamas was the main obstacle to reaching an agreement, but now the consensus among the mediators is that Netanyahu has become the main obstacle to reaching an agreement. They pointed out that Netanyahu made new demands at the same time as the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau leader Haniyeh last week.
