Cathay Pacific Group's profit in the first half of this year exceeded HK$3.6 billion

China News Service, Hong Kong, August 7 (Reporter Han Xingtong) Hong Kong Cathay Pacific Airways Limited (Cathay Pacific) held a press conference on the 7th to announce the group's first half results for 2024. The Cathay Pacific Group (including airlines, subsidiaries and affiliates) recorded an attributable profit of 3.613 billion Hong Kong dollars (HKD, the same below) in the first half of this year.

According to the performance report released on the same day, the passenger revenue of Cathay Pacific Airways, a subsidiary of the group, increased to 30.017 billion yuan, an increase of 20% over the same period last year. In the first half of this year, Cathay Pacific Airways carried a total of 10.7 million passengers, with an average daily passenger load of about 59,000, an increase of 36.4% over the first half of last year, and a load factor of 82.4%.

During the period, Cathay Pacific Cargo recorded revenue of 10.902 billion yuan in the first half of this year, an increase of 1.5% over the same period last year. The overall cargo tonnage increased by 10.4% to 719,000 tons, and the load factor was 59.9%.

Cathay Pacific Chairman John Heard said at a press conference that the group achieved ideal results in the first six months, mainly due to continued strong travel demand and solid performance of the cargo business.

Mr. Ho also announced that Cathay Pacific Group will invest more than HK$100 billion in its fleet, cabin products, airport lounges and other areas in the next seven years to support its proactive development strategy, further enhance passenger experience and consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub in conjunction with the completion of the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport.

The investment includes the order of 30 Airbus A330-900 aircraft announced on the same day, with the right to purchase an additional 30 aircraft. This regional wide-body aircraft is expected to be delivered in batches from 2028 and join the Cathay Pacific fleet, mainly serving Asian routes. Together with the latest order, Cathay Pacific will receive more than 100 new-generation aircraft in the future, and has the right to purchase more than 80 additional aircraft, involving different models, including narrow-body aircraft, regional wide-body aircraft, long-haul wide-body aircraft and large freighters.

Cathay Pacific was founded in Hong Kong in 1946 and has been ranked among the top ten "World's Best Airlines" for many years. This year, it was selected as one of the top five "World's Best Airlines" by a well-known industry rating organization and won the "World's Best Economy Class" award. (End)
