Turkish President Erdogan said on August 5 local time that the Turkish parliament's legal team plans to submit a petition to the International Court of Justice in The Hague on the 7th local time to join the lawsuit initiated by South Africa against Israel for alleged "genocide."

Erdogan said that "with the killing of Hamas political bureau leader Haniyeh, the Gaza crisis has broken new boundaries" and that the Israeli government has plunged the region into crisis. Erdogan said Turkey will do its utmost to stand with the Palestinian people.

South Africa sued Israel in the International Court of Justice last December for "genocide" in the Gaza Strip. The International Court of Justice issued "provisional measures" in January and March this year, requiring Israel to comply with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to prevent "genocide" against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and take all necessary measures to ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip.
