According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, all four iPhone 17 models expected to be launched next year will be equipped with upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing cameras. In a research note from investment bank Haitong, Pu shared a chart showing that the iPhone 17, tentatively named iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max will each be equipped with a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with six plastic lens elements.

In comparison, all iPhone 15 models come with a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with five plastic lens elements.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed back in January that at least one iPhone 17 model would have a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with a six-element lens, so now multiple sources have reported this upgrade, making it more likely. Kuo said these changes would "significantly improve image quality."

With a higher 24-megapixel resolution, the quality of the photo can be maintained even when the photo is cropped more, providing more flexibility in post-processing. The six-element lens also slightly improves image quality, as each lens can correct various aberrations and distortions, making the photo clearer and more accurate.

The iPhone 17 is expected to launch in September 2025, so that’s still more than a year away. Rumors about two generations of iPhones always start early, as Apple starts developing and prototyping products long before they’re released.
