Inspired by Baldur's Gate 3, Warframe developer Digital Extremes will launch a romance system in the annual version of Warframe: 1999.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, creative director Rebecca Ford said that she "has always wanted to add some type of love system to Warframe", but "never had the right scenario to do it". Although it cannot be entirely attributed to Larian's "daring to be the first", Ford admitted that the success of Baldur's Gate 3 was the main factor in DE's determination.

"I think there were two things that really gave us the courage to keep going. Of course, the success of Baldur's Gate 3 and its romance system confirmed for us that players did want it. We did have the idea for a romance system, and it fit the fabric of Warframe... and Baldur's Gate 3 definitely gave us the courage to go over the cliff, and I'm grateful for that. For me, that was one of the best gaming experiences ever."

"Warframe: 1999" will be launched this winter. In this version, players will travel back to 1999 and play the role of Arthur, a human who is very similar to the holy sword, and face a new crisis with his other prototype warframe partners.
