When it comes to “second-hand furniture”, many people’s first reaction may be “turns out to be second-hand furniture”. Of course, it is more than just second-hand.

Second-hand means used, which means old things. Mid-Century Modern refers to the modernist design style that became popular in the fields of furniture, interior design, industrial design, and architecture from the 1930s to the 1960s, and reached its peak in the 1950s.

These are some classic works created by design masters who led the furniture trend at the time, so not all second-hand furniture can be called second-hand furniture.

Cara Greenberg gave this style a name in her book "Mid-Century Modernism: Furniture of the 1950s" published in 1983: "MCM", which means mid-century modern style, or "Mid-Century Style" for short. Today, it is recognized by designers all over the world and considered to be a very important design movement.

The difference between second-hand furniture and antique furniture is actually a distinction in age, just like many people are confused about the concepts of "antique", "MCM" and "vintage". Antique: refers to items with a history of more than 100 years.

Vintage items are not that old and can also be called “light antiques.” The word vintage comes from the French word Vendage, which means “the grapes picked during a season,” and also indicates another characteristic of vintage items: a distinct mark of the times.
