the reporter learned from the shanghai observatory of the chinese academy of sciences that on the morning of october 7, the shigatse 40-meter radio telescope, jointly developed by the shanghai observatory of the chinese academy of sciences and the 39th research institute of china electronics technology group corporation, successfully completed the main antenna system in shigatse city, tibet autonomous region. hoisting of reflectors, this marks the preliminary completion of the mechanical installation of the antenna, laying a solid foundation for subsequent joint debugging such as the electrical debugging of the telescope.
the shigatse 40-meter radio telescope is a radio telescope invested and constructed in the fourth phase of the lunar exploration project. it will join the china very long baseline interferometry (vlbi) network together with the radio telescope that completed the hoisting of the main reflector of the antenna system in changbai mountain, jilin in august 2024 ( cvn), forming a flexible twin sub-network with six stations and one center, with the ability to simultaneously observe the orbit of the moon and deep space detectors in two different sky areas.
in order to adapt to the high-altitude environment, the shigatse 40-meter radio telescope adopts a number of advanced technologies. for example, the antenna is fully solid, fully movable, high-precision, and multi-purpose.
the telescope is expected to complete basic construction by the end of 2024 and have vlbi observation capabilities in early 2025.the completion and operation of the shigatse 40-meter radio telescope and the changbaishan 40-meter radio telescope will further enhance my country's existing vlbi orbit determination capabilities and contribute to subsequent lunar and planetary exploration and manned lunar landings.
