on october 4, the european union held a vote on whether to impose a five-year countervailing duty on chinese electric vehicles. the european commission issued a statement stating that the relevant proposals have received the necessary support from eu member states.
in response, china's ministry of commerce stated that it firmly opposes the eu's protectionist practices in this case. the china-eu technical team will continue negotiations on october 7.
the ministry of commerce also stated that china urges the eu to return to the right track of resolving trade frictions through consultation, and will take all measures to firmly safeguard the interests of chinese companies.
the chinese chamber of commerce in the european union also issued a statement expressing strong dissatisfaction with the eu's promotion of trade protectionist measures, calling on the eu to act prudently, delay the implementation of tariffs, and avoid escalating bilateral trade frictions.
in october last year, the european commission launched a countervailing investigation into electric vehicles imported from china. in august this year, it issued a final draft ruling that it plans to impose countervailing duties of 17% to 36.3% on chinese electric vehicles.
