at the beginning of the founding of new china, our country's economic foundation was very weak and its economic scale was small. in 1952, our country's gross domestic product (gdp) was only us$30 billion. in 1978, my country's gdp increased to us$149.5 billion, accounting for 1.7% of the world economy. since the reform and opening up, my country's economic aggregate has continued to expand, reaching 17.8 trillion us dollars in 2023, accounting for 16.9% of the world's total, ranking second in the world.

in terms of foreign economic and trade, in 1950, my country's total import and export of goods trade was only us$1.1 billion, accounting for 0.9% of the world's total. after the reform and opening up, my country's foreign trade in goods has entered a period of accelerated development. in 1999, my country's total import and export of goods trade reached us$360.6 billion, ranking ninth in the world; in 2009, china's total import and export of goods reached us$2,207.5 billion, ranking second in the world. since the 18th national congress of the communist party of china, my country's total import and export volume of goods trade and its ranking in the world have further improved. in 2013, my country became the world's largest country in goods trade. in 2023, my country's total import and export of goods trade will reach us$5.9 trillion, accounting for 12.4% of the world's total, ranking first in the world for seven consecutive years.
trade in services has also undergone earth-shaking changes. in the early days of the founding of the people's republic of china, my country's service trade was almost zero. in 1982, my country's total import and export of services trade was us$4.69 billion, ranking 34th in the world. since the 18th national congress of the communist party of china, the scale of my country’s service trade has continued to expand. in 2023, my country's total import and export of services trade will reach us$933.1 billion, ranking fourth in the world.
