kuai technology news on october 2,the labor strike at samsung's home appliance factory in india has entered its fourth week. according to indian police on october 1, a total of 912 people were detained, including employees and union members participating in the strike.
senior police officer of tamil nadu charles sam rajadurai said,around 850 samsung employees and 60 citu-affiliated workers were detained for causing public inconvenience with their unsanctioned protest march near the city of chennai.
charles sam rajadurai said: "they were housed in four wedding halls and a decision will be made later on whether to release them."
since september 9, more than 1,000 workers have responded to the strike call and built temporary shelters outside factories near chennai to protest, demanding higher wages and more.
samsung electronics' annual revenue in india is as high as us$12 billion, and the factory in the southern indian state of tamil nadu where the strike occurred contributed one-fifth of it.
the factory mainly produces household appliances such as refrigerators, televisions and washing machines, and employs about 1,800 workers, of whom more than 1,000 participated in the strike.
meanwhile, there were no similar protests at another samsung factory in the northern indian state of uttar pradesh that makes smartphones.
