on september 25, guangzhou weride, a leading global autonomous driving technology company, and uber, the world's largest mobile travel and delivery technology company, announced a strategic partnership to jointly promote weride's autonomous driving vehicles to the uber platform and will first start operations in the uae.
the cooperation between the two parties will be officially launched in abu dhabi, the capital of the united arab emirates, at the end of this year. a batch of weride's self-driving vehicles will be launched on the uber app to provide services to consumers. after the cooperation is implemented, local passengers will have a new travel option when using the uber app to take a taxi, that is, to choose to take a weride self-driving vehicle to complete the journey. the cooperation between the two parties does not involve the us and chinese markets.
currently, weride operates the largest fleet of autonomous taxis (robotaxi) in the uae, and local residents can enjoy autonomous taxi (robotaxi) services through the txai app. in july 2023, weride obtained the first and only national full-domain autonomous driving road license in the uae, and was approved to conduct autonomous driving vehicle testing and operations on public roads across the uae.
