hulunbuir, located at 47°05'-53°20 north latitude, is one of the earliest destinations in china to enter autumn. at this moment, it is the best time to go to hulunbuir, which is already a golden autumn fairy tale.

here you can find not only everything you can imagine about the grassland, but also the scenery on the right bank of the ergun river, the "sea" and the "british white cliffs" at the end of the grassland, the mysterious border road, the beautiful sunset at heishantou, etc.

how to make hulunbuir loop?

in fact, strictly speaking, there are no "attractions" in hulunbuir, because there are scenery along the way, which is very suitable for self-driving.

the self-driving route in hulunbuir starts from hailar and is divided into a circular route, a south route, and a north route. there are also different ways of driving in clockwise and counterclockwise directions.

south route:starting from hailar to arshan in the south, the entire route is dominated by forests, and the scenery is simpler than the northern route, but the arshan forest park, which is a must-pass, has a fantastic landscape of volcanoes, tianchi lake, and forests intertwined.

northern route:the northern route has more fun and scenery, passing through ergun, shiwei, enhe, manzhouli, and you can also check out the famous kaxian highway and the primitive russian-style villages on the border. it is the most classic route for traveling in hulunbuir.there are two different ways to go on the northern route.——one way is to go directly to enhe and shiwei after arriving at ergun, and then go to heishantou and manzhouli along the ka line highway; the other way is to make a bigger detour and include genhe and mordaoga in the process (the yellow part in the map).

loop:simply put, it means completing both the south line and the north line together.

the loop line takes about 10 days and is more suitable for people with plenty of vacation time. the north line generally takes 5-6 days, and the south line 3-4 days. you can choose according to the length of your trip.

the route we compiled this time focuses on the scenery of the northern line, which is more suitable for people who are traveling to hulunbuir for the first time. at the same time, we have specially found many niche, well-photographed, and little-known check-in spots along the route.

day 1 hailar-morigele river (cliff)-ergun wetland (back mountain)

the moment we set foot on the hulunbuir journey,the scenery in front of you can meet all your expectations of the grassland.the sky in the grassland is much higher than that in the city. big white clouds fall on the peaks of distant mountains, as if you can reach out and touch them if you drive closer. round haystacks are scattered across the mountains like cake rolls, and herds of cattle and sheep are grazing leisurely by the roadside.

the first stop: morigele river. it is described by mr. lao she as "the best winding river in the world".the river is like a ribbon across the grassland, a blue hada dedicated to the grassland, and the winding river is flanked by vast grasslands. there are three viewing platforms on the morigele river, namely, moergen station, ajinai station, and haolinwendu station. the first two viewing platforms often gather many tour groups, so it is not recommended to go there because of the crowds. haolinwendu station is the highest point among the viewing platforms, and you need to climb a long wooden plank road, which blocks your view.

and according to the latest news on september 18, the morigele river scenic area is currently in the peak tourist season.self-driving cars are prohibited from entering the scenic area. don't worry, we just have a more niche way to play.

compared with entering the scenic area and checking in at the viewing platform, it is more recommended to go to the "cliff".this is the best place for taking photos and has the best view. there is no fence blocking the view, so you can have a panoramic view of the winding and magnificent morigele river. it is very pleasant to sit on the edge of the cliff, look up, and watch the clouds roll by.

navigate to "tuga camp" first, then search for "cliff" after entering the camp.it is only 20 kilometers away along the two-lane cement road. however, sometimes the main road is closed, and the traffic conditions are different every day. it is best to consult a local guide in advance. in addition, there is no signal on the way to the cliff, so remember to download the offline map.

leaving the morigele river scenic area, drive another 110 kilometers to ergun. the ancient and distant place in the book "the right bank of the ergun river" is spread out before your eyes. "every mountain on the right bank of the ergun river is a star shining on the earth." there is also a very famous wetland landscape here.

people often cannot distinguish between the erguna wetland scenic area and the erguna national wetland park. the former is only 2 kilometers away from the city and has a relatively smaller area; the latter is about 20 kilometers away from the city, has a much larger area, and has fewer people, so you can get closer to the wetland.

but if you want to have some "wilder" fun, you might as well go to the "secret" back mountain of ergun.from the top of the mountain, you can overlook the entire ergun wetland, as if you have entered darcy's manor in "pride and prejudice". the sunset here is undisturbed, with only cattle, sheep and grass on the ground shining in the sunset.

someone joked: we are used to working like "oxen and horses" in our daily lives, but this time we saw real oxen and horses, and they live a more comfortable life than us.

navigate to "erguna fourth production team",but don't turn into the village.continue along the cement road after seeing the renhua store.don't ever run over the grass.this will have a negative impact on the local ecology and will result in a fine!

Day2 ergun-birch forest-enhe russian national township-shuiwei

the second day's itinerary focuses on border scenery.

birch forests can be seen everywhere along the road, scattered into small forests, artistically connected with the grasslands. as you drive into the depths of the grasslands and mountains,you will break into a cartoon-like town - enhe.the whole town is full of russian-style wooden houses. the wooden orthodox church stands silently, cows and sheep graze quietly, and horses sway leisurely. life here seems to be paused. if you are not in a hurry, you can stay here for an entire afternoon.

enhe is suitable for taking photos, while shiwei is more suitable for staying overnight.the town is bigger and more commercialized, but the scenery still retains the fairytale style. the busiest place in the town is the commercial street, with byzantine-style buildings standing on both sides of the street. matryoshka, black bread, dark chocolate, and simidan are the main products on the street, and the aroma of russian food is fragrant...

Day3 shiwei-border checkpoint-heishantou

this is the most anticipated part of the self-driving trip to hulunbuir - the "card line" trip.

the "checkpoint line" refers to county road 904 from the shiwei port to heishantou town, which goes south along the right bank of the ergun river on the china-russia border, passing through various border checkpoints from jiuka to erka.the kazakhstan line in autumn has the most beautiful scenery of the year, with china on one side and russia on the other.the golden forest and black soil create a unique color combination, and you can also overlook the beautiful ergun river in the distance.

it takes about 4-5 hours to drive from no. 9 to no. 5, and it is best to arrive at heishantou before dusk. you can choose to ride horses, ski on the grass, or play go-karts to experience the charm of the grassland.many people choose to ride a horse to watch the sunset, but this will make them "crowd" with other people.it is also recommended that you climb to a high place and enjoy the view in peace and quiet.

but according to the latest news,the ka line highway (qika-heishantou section) is under construction and a wave of vehicles will be allowed to pass every hour.but the traffic jam is quite serious. you can choose to take the g331 route (passing through labu dalin and sanhe). the scenery along the way is mainly grasslands and hillsides, which is also a very unforgettable journey!

day 4 heishantou-manzhouli

if you want to add some color to your trip to the grassland, go to "manzhouli".this border town borders mongolia to the west and russia to the north. you can admire the architecture of the three countries and enjoy the blend of culture and food of the three countries. the whole city is full of onion-shaped candy castles, fairy-tale ferris wheels, mammoth sculptures... even those who don't like taking pictures can't help but make a few cute poses.

at manzhouli citywalk, you will feel like you are traveling abroad.lubli western restaurant is a very famous russian restaurant in the area.during the peak season, there will be people queuing up after 10 pm. the ukrainian borscht, russian kebabs, and russian charcoal-grilled sausages are quite authentic. remember to order the cheese buns, which are full of cheese and rich in texture. in short, they are very special and delicious.

Day5 manzhouli - hulun lake - hailar

don't think that the last day is just the return trip.

in this day's itinerary, there is a finale and heavy recommendation - genghis khan horse post. at first glance, do you think it is a horse farm?but in fact, there is a very magical scenery here, and you can actually see the "sea" at the end of the grassland!

the so-called "sea" is actually hulun lake, the largest lake in inner mongolia. in clear autumn weather, the lake is as clear and blue as the sea, and the cliffs echo the clear lake water. the scenery is not inferior to the "white cliffs of england". but the wind on the grassland is still wanton and fierce, so you will clearly understand: this is the unique hulunbuir, an irreplaceable scenery.
