on september 25, a national training course on promoting the establishment of a long-term care insurance system with high quality was held in binzhou. the convening of this meeting marked the end of the eight-year pilot work of long-term care insurance (hereinafter referred to as long-term care insurance), and the construction of the long-term care insurance system will be fully launched across the country.
long-term care insurance is known as the "sixth insurance" of social security. it refers to insurance that pays for the expenses incurred by individuals who are unable to take care of themselves due to old age, illness or disability and need to be treated at home or in a nursing home with special care.
this conference was both a launch meeting for the nationwide promotion of long-term care insurance and a training session for related business content. heads of medical insurance departments from 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government), 133 prefecture-level cities and 33 experts and scholars attended the meeting.
my country's long-term care insurance system was launched in 2016 as a pilot program, and the scope of pilot cities was expanded in 2020. currently, 49 pilot cities across the country have participated in the insurance program, covering about 180 million people, and a total of more than 2.35 million people have received benefits.

as a national pilot city, binzhou launched the pilot program of long-term care insurance for employees in 2017, achieved full coverage of long-term care insurance for employees in 2019, and launched the pilot program of long-term care insurance for residents in 2023. as of now, the city's long-term care insurance covers 1.68 million people. in 2022, binzhou city took the lead in the province to launch the rental of rehabilitation equipment for long-term care insurance. a total of 835 disabled people have rented 1,752 suitable equipment through long-term care insurance, which has effectively promoted the development of the local silver economy while improving the quality of life of disabled people.
