chinanews.com, september 25 (xinhua) -- on the 25th, the national fire and rescue administration held a press conference on the national fire safety situation from january to august this year. wang wei, senior commander of the national fire and rescue administration office, introduced the overall situation of the national comprehensive fire and rescue team's response to police calls. in 8 months, the team received and handled 1.65 million police calls, dispatched 17.776 million personnel and 3.184 million fire trucks, rescued 148,000 trapped people, and evacuated 169,000 people in distress. the total number of police calls increased by 11.4% compared with the same period last year.
among all types of police incidents, there were 660,000 fire fighting, 300,000 emergency rescue, and 515,000 social assistance. these three types of police incidents increased by 5.7%, 2.4%, and 28.5% respectively compared with the same period last year. among them, fire fighting accounted for 40% of the total tasks, the largest proportion, which fully shows that fire fighting is still the main task of the fire rescue team. for example, the fire rescue corps in shandong, hebei, henan, gansu and other places, the proportion of fire fighting exceeded 60%. in addition, the forest fire fighting team put out 116 forest and grassland fires. from the perspective of geographical distribution, the four provinces of sichuan, guangdong, jiangsu, and shandong have more than 100,000 police incidents, and the tasks in these provinces are relatively heavy.
wang wei also introduced the overall situation of fire accidents. in the first eight months, there were 660,000 fire accidents, resulting in 1,324 deaths, 1,760 injuries, and direct property losses of 4.92 billion yuan. compared with the same period last year, the number of fires and deaths increased by 1.4% and 11.5% respectively, while the number of injuries and property losses decreased by 6.6% and 13.5% respectively.
in terms of regional distribution, the total number of fires in rural areas is still relatively high. there were 391,000 fires in rural areas, killing 645 people, accounting for 59.1% and 48.7% of the total number, and rural fires are still relatively frequent; there were 253,000 fires in urban areas, killing 620 people, accounting for 38.3% and 46.8% of the total number; there were 17,000 fires in other areas such as industrial areas and tourist areas, killing 59 people, accounting for 2.6% and 4.5% of the total number.
