economic observer network wang yiwei/text in recent years, many chinese people have learned more about the european country of the netherlands, because there is a company called asml in this country that produces the world's most advanced lithography machines.

now, chinese people should have a deeper impression of the netherlands.

because the dutch parliament has begun to interfere in china's taiwan issue.

on september 12, the dutch parliament passed a motion with 147 votes in favor and 3 votes against. the motion stated that the 1971 un resolution 2758 only confirmed the diplomatic status of the people's republic of china and did not define the sovereignty of taiwan or its future status in international organizations.

such a motion clearly sends a signal of support to the "taiwan independence" forces on the island.

the next day (september 13), the chinese embassy in the netherlands responded. the embassy spokesperson urged the netherlands to earnestly abide by the one-china principle, not send any wrong signals to the "taiwan independence" separatist forces, and take practical actions to safeguard the overall development of china-netherlands relations.

in my opinion, challenging resolution 2758 is a "big move" made by lai ching-te on the road to "independence" after he took office as the leader of taiwan on may 20.

this "big move" has three "effects":

first, it successfully "tied" the blue and white camps together.

on september 20, taiwan's legislative yuan opened a new session. the democratic progressive party caucus proposed that the legislative yuan make a joint statement that "un general assembly resolution 2758 does not involve taiwan"; the kuomintang caucus proposed "opposing resolution 2758" and hoped that the "republic of china" would return to the united nations; the people's party caucus also proposed that resolution 2758 did not involve the issue of mainland china's "sovereignty over taiwan". the above three proposals and motions were all passed by the taiwan legislative yuan and directly sent to the second reading.

second, it is expected that in the coming period, the parliaments of some western countries will launch a wave of distorting and questioning resolution 2758, which will have a corresponding influence.

some members of some western parliaments are anti-china in the first place. the lai ching-te administration's manipulation of resolution 2758 is equivalent to giving them a chance to perform. these members will not miss this opportunity.

the author believes that the netherlands took the lead this time not only because of the support of the taiwan authorities' foreign affairs department, but also because of tsmc, which is asml's largest customer and has a very close relationship with the dutch company.

third, the lai ching-te administration’s denial of resolution 2758 has laid the groundwork for the united states to forcefully interfere in china’s reunification in the future.

i will not elaborate on this point.

i believe that the relevant mainland parties have already noticed lai qingdefang's "big move", and related countermeasures, counterattack measures and diplomatic work will be launched one after another.

on september 11, chen binhua, spokesperson for the taiwan affairs office of the state council, answered questions from reporters on resolution 2758. there are two details worth mentioning: first, before the 26th united nations general assembly in 1971 voted to adopt resolution 2758, it first rejected two proposals involving taiwan by a large margin, namely the "two chinas representation proposal" and the "one china, one taiwan and taiwan self-determination proposal." this means that the united nations returned the representation and seats of all of china, including taiwan, to the government of the people's republic of china on the premise of recognizing that taiwan is part of china; second, the official united nations documents refer to taiwan as "taiwan, province of china." the legal opinion issued by the legal affairs office of the united nations secretariat also emphasized that "the united nations believes that taiwan, as a province of china, does not have independent status."

the 79th session of the united nations general assembly opened on september 10. according to the agenda of the general assembly, the general debate will be held from september 24 to 30.

in previous years' general debates of the united nations general assembly, representatives of a small number of countries, including heads of state, made inappropriate remarks on the taiwan issue in their speeches.

this year, with the instigation of the lai ching-te administration, will such voices still appear at the general debate of the united nations general assembly?
