on september 21, the 11th international conference of the institute of public policy of south china university of technology (ipp) with the theme of "artificial intelligence and the future world" was held in nansha, guangzhou. dozens of artificial intelligence experts, well-known scholars, and industry elites from different countries and disciplines conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as the progress of cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies, international competition trends, and global ai governance, and examined the artificial intelligence technology revolution and the future of mankind that it may shape through interdisciplinary dialogues.
professor zheng yongnian, the convener of this conference and the chairman of the ipp academic committee, said in his welcome speech that as the core technology of the fourth industrial revolution, artificial intelligence is affecting human production, life and even thinking with unprecedented breadth and depth. at present, the development of artificial intelligence has brought many unknown areas. the purpose of holding this conference is to invite experts from different backgrounds to discuss and look forward to a series of topics related to artificial intelligence and the future development of human society.
"we are now in the ai ​​era, which is actually a combination of the three major advances in human civilization." huang kai, winner of the 10th wu wenjun artificial intelligence natural science award and emeritus chair professor of the chinese university of hong kong (shenzhen), delivered a keynote speech entitled "upgrading artificial intelligence and robot embodied ecology: activating digital economy and intelligent medical services" at the conference. he analyzed the latest progress of general artificial intelligence (agi) in the fields of robot embodied intelligence and intelligent manufacturing from a cutting-edge perspective. he pointed out that compared with humans, artificial intelligence has stronger perception capabilities. with the development of embodied intelligence such as automotive robots, industrial robots, and home assistant robots, the future of human society will undergo tremendous changes. if it can be used for peace, social development, medical and health purposes, artificial intelligence will create great benefits for mankind.
the conference was held over two days, with five special topics: "ai empowers economy and society", "ai governance and the open world", "international competition in the ai ​​era", "ai development in asia", and "ai and social risks". hans d'orville, former assistant director-general for strategic planning of unesco, tomasz braun, vice president for international affairs of lazarski university, inga ulnicane, research fellow at the university of birmingham, uk, and keun lee, director of the center for comparative economic research at seoul national university, and other internationally renowned scholars will analyze the opportunities and challenges brought about by the development of artificial intelligence from the perspectives of technology, ethics, policy, and social risks, and explore the multiple roles of artificial intelligence in promoting economic and social transformation. in the roundtable discussion on the theme of "ai and the industrial revolution", guests from leading artificial intelligence companies such as tencent, baidu, and pusi yingcha technology jointly analyzed the transformative potential of ai from multiple dimensions and explored in depth the relationship between ai and the "new industrial revolution".
