my phone was stolen while camping outdoors

liu peng decided to go to mount qiyun on a whim. he is 35 years old and works in engineering in jinhua, zhejiang. he has been outdoors for two years and has gone hiking once or twice a month, spending one-fifth of his monthly salary. he saw mount qiyun on a short video platform and was attracted by the sea of ​​clouds and sunrise.

on september 7, he and two fellow hikers took a nine-hour train to ganzhou city, jiangxi province, then drove for several hours and hiked for four or five hours, finally reaching the top of mount qiyun at four in the afternoon.

however, this camping trip turned out to be an unpleasant experience. in the early morning of the 8th, liu peng found that his mobile phone and newly bought sports watch had been stolen, and there were three holes in his tent.

at 4:30 in the morning, when liu peng woke up, it was still dark. he habitually touched his phone, but couldn't find it. liu peng thought that his phone had slipped to another place in the tent while he was sleeping. just as he was about to start looking for it, he heard someone outside the tent saying that the phone was missing. "at that time, i still didn't think there was really a thief, because i had never encountered such a thing outdoors."

liu peng searched the tent inside and out, but still couldn't find the phone. at the same time, he found three holes on the tent, each about 30 centimeters long, located at the head, feet and side of his body when he lay down. his sports watch, which he had bought three months ago, was also missing. liu peng's losses from the phone, watch and tent exceeded 10,000 yuan.

later, the campers woke up one after another, and more and more people found that their phones had been stolen. liu peng told "zheng news" that according to rough statistics, about ten tents were scratched and more than a dozen phones were stolen.

a traveler's cell phone was worth more than 9,000 yuan and was also newly bought. according to the traveler, his cell phone was still charging when he fell asleep. at 3:30 a.m. on the 8th, he woke up and found that his cell phone was fully charged. when he woke up again at around 5 a.m., his cell phone was gone. based on the timeline between himself and the traveler, liu peng speculated that the incident should have happened between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. on september 8th.

shao ming from shangrao found his cell phone missing at 6am on september 8. there was a hole about 15cm in his tent, next to his pillow, "so he could touch the phone with his hand". after finding out his phone was stolen, a fellow traveler in the same tent mentioned that he felt something touching his feet after he fell asleep. he thought it was the wind or some other animal, so he didn't pay attention and continued to sleep. "we thought it might be the suspect, and we touched his feet first, so we found out the approximate location of the phone. there was only this hole in my tent, and you couldn't see clearly what was going on inside from the outside, so this is the only explanation."

li hemin is from chongyi county, ganzhou city, which is about an hour and a half drive from qiyun mountain. on the night of the incident, he was one of the merchants who rented out tents on the top of qiyun mountain. one of the 20 tents he rented out was also cut. "one cut was in the outer tent, about seven or eight centimeters long, and another was in the inner tent, nearly 20 centimeters long. moreover, the cut in the outer tent was on the top of the tent, and the cut in the inner tent was at the bottom." li hemin told zhengzheng news that the outer tent of the tent is rainproof and warm, and the inner tent is a layer of translucent mesh cloth. the suspect should have cut the outer tent first, observed the general situation inside the tent, and then cut the inner tent to touch the mobile phone.

two days later, when cleaning up the garbage, li hemin also found a package of razor blades at the location where the tent was camped.

after the news of tents being scratched and mobile phones being stolen spread in the camping area on the top of qiyun mountain, a hiker who climbed up the mountain to watch the sunrise in the early morning of september 8 provided a clue.

some hikers said that when they were going up the mountain, they met a middle-aged man who was about 30 years old. because he was the only one coming down the mountain and his clothes were different from those of other hikers, he attracted everyone's attention. the man was wearing slippers and shorts, a black hat, and a business bag.

shao ming told the news that wearing a hat alone can distinguish him from other hikers, "we usually don't wear hats because it would be stuffy."

the proprietress of the guanggushan farm at the foot of the mountain confirmed this to liu peng. she said that she also saw a person coming down the mountain alone at around 8:30 that morning. "most people climb qiyun mountain to watch the sunrise, but it is unusual to go down the mountain against the flow of people before daybreak," liu peng told zhengzheng news.

liu peng also analyzed the possible time when the suspect went up the mountain. liu peng said that it was raining heavily from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. on september 7, and he thought it was impossible for the suspect to go up the mountain in the heavy rain during this period. at the same time, since it takes at least four hours to go up the mountain, and it takes longer if you walk at night, liu peng believes that the suspect is likely to have arrived at the top of qiyun mountain in the afternoon or evening of the 7th, just like them.

"there is so little space on the top of the mountain. if he wants to hide from the rain, he can either stay in a tent or hide in the nearby iron temple or convenience store," said liu peng.

shao ming gave more speculations. "first, i think there were at least two people who committed the crime at the same time," shao ming said. "it would have made noise if the tent was cut for a long time, so it should have been done in a short time, but it is unlikely that one person could have done it."

at the same time, shao ming thought the suspect was relatively petite, at least smaller than him. "it was very difficult for me to put my hand into the cut he made," shao ming told zheng news. he is 170cm tall and weighs 90kg.

more importantly, the hikers believed that the suspect must have some outdoor experience and was familiar with the structure of tents and the road conditions of qiyun mountain. liu peng said that the incident happened not only after the hikers who were camping went to bed, but also before the hikers who climbed the mountain at night to watch the sunrise reached the top of the mountain.

zhang qiang, the owner of guanggushan farm at the foot of the mountain, also believed that the suspect might be from the surrounding counties and cities. zhang qiang told zhengzheng news that although there have been frequent camping trips from other provinces in qiyun mountain in the past two years, it is unlikely that outsiders would come to qiyun mountain specifically to steal things. he knows several villagers who have carried supplies up the mountain to sell, but zhang qiang also said that these people look honest and know each other well, "not like people who can do such a thing."

many people may not have heard of qiyun mountain. in xiuning county, huangshan, anhui, there is another more famous taoist cultural qiyun mountain. qiyun mountain in southern jiangxi was only discovered by outdoor enthusiasts in the past two years and has become a new "internet celebrity hiking route."

public information shows that qiyun mountain is located at the junction of pule town, xinfang township of guidong county, sisun township of chongyi county, jiangxi province, and wuzhifeng township of shangyou county. the main peak, qiyun peak, has an altitude of 2,061.3 meters. it is the highest peak in southern jiangxi. it is named because of its high and steep mountain top, which is shrouded in clouds and mist all day long.

shao ming said that another reason why qiyun mountain attracts hikers is that it has not yet been commercially developed. only one of the three routes up the mountain has stairs, which were just started this year. however, this is exactly what hikers love. "compared with mature scenic spots, outdoor hikers prefer this kind of undeveloped attractions, which are more challenging."

in li hemin's impression, camping in qiyun mountain became popular around 2022 and 2023. the flow of people brings business. in the past one or two years, six or seven farms have opened up in the 500-600-meter distance on the small road from exing village to the foot of qiyun mountain. the nearby villagers also saw the business opportunity. locals often carry supplies up the mountain to sell water and instant noodles to hikers who come to camp, and also rent tents. "we rural people don't have a fixed job. we all do odd jobs outside and do whatever we can," said zhang qiang.

because there was no one to manage it, the garbage on mount qiyun could only be burned on the spot by the owner of the mountaintop shop. later, as more and more people came, the owner could not burn it all, so the newly thrown garbage covered with soil was piled up in the loess.

liu peng had a bad impression of qi yunshan, and he described the trip as "in a mess." in addition to having his cell phone and watch stolen, he also told zhengzheng news that he had never seen so much garbage outdoors.

"i've climbed so many mountains, but this is the first time i've encountered something like this. it's really painful." liu peng still hopes that the matter can have a result.

it was not until ten days later, on the afternoon of september 18, that liu peng received news from the police officers in charge of the case, saying that they had a clue and would announce the results to the public.
