the 19th hong kong international wushu festival was held at the ma on shan sports centre in hong kong, china. this year's wushu festival attracted more than 3,000 martial arts enthusiasts, including more than 500 foreign athletes from russia, malaysia, japan, the philippines, belarus, bulgaria, kazakhstan and other countries.
cai haoyang, 20 years old this year, has been practicing martial arts for more than 10 years. his grandfather, cai peiyong, is a martial arts enthusiast. influenced by him since childhood, cai haoyang gradually fell in love with boxing. "when my grandfather was young, there was an old boxer in the village who taught boxing, and many people in the village knew how to do it."
when asked why he learned wing chun, he couldn't help but say that on the one hand, he was influenced by his grandfather to learn tai chi since he was a child, and was exposed to martial arts; on the other hand, he was influenced by donnie yen's movie "wing chun", and the wing chun boxing moves were agile and powerful, which left a deep impression on him.

"ip man's wing chun has small movements but fast striking speed. it is soft yet strong. it is so exciting to watch!" he was still a little excited when talking about the palpitations he felt when watching the movie that year.
after that, cai haoyang started to learn martial arts, focusing on wing chun, and was fortunate to meet his master wang gaofei. he is the head coach of ningbo tengyuan martial arts school and a disciple of foshan yaobao. he is known as the "ningbo version of ip man". following his master's learning, cai haoyang eventually went from ningbo to international competitions.
during the competition, cai haoyang met many international friends. seeing that he was so young and was so good at wing chun, many people gave him a thumbs up. "most of the people participating in the competition were uncles and aunts. when they saw me, they would give me a thumbs up!"
"i was very nervous at the beginning of the competition. after all, the opportunity was precious. but once i started boxing and focused on the movements, i felt calm inside." cai haoyang said, recalling the competition in hong kong, there were 20 to 30 competitors in the same group. in the end, he withstood the pressure, performed every move to the best of his ability, and won the championship.
in fact, last year, cai haoyang participated in the zhejiang province wing chun combat competition held in hangzhou and won three gold medals, namely wing chun combat 80kg and above, double sticky hands 80kg and above, and male youth d group wooden man. in just two years, he has won 5 gold medals.
after returning to ningbo, cai haoyang took the two gold medals and immediately went back to jiangshan town to share the joy of winning with his grandparents. on the same day, during a community event, he took a photo with his grandparents and shared his experience of winning with the community residents.
