how do you view your career as a soldier and police officer? dong junzhou answered this question: "my father was a soldier. when i was a child, i often heard him talk about the life in the army and the responsibilities of soldiers. i have had a dream of becoming a police officer since i was a child." for him, this profession requires him to use his own actions to uphold justice, solve cases and catch bad guys, and protect the lives and safety of the people.
a young man's dream of becoming a police officer
in 1989, 16-year-old dong junzhou went alone from his hometown of hebei to serve in the 4th detachment of the inner mongolia armed police. during his three years of compulsory military service, he not only learned the skills of grappling and fighting, but also understood the heavy feelings of home and country.
"after my military career ended, in order to get one step closer to my childhood dream, in 1993 i decided to come to guangxi, 2,000 kilometers away from home, and apply for a job in public security," said dong junzhou.
talking about his parents, dong junzhou, who has been away from home for many years, always remembers what his father said to him - "a good man has ambitions in all directions, and he has a country before he has a home." "my father's words inspire me. now every time i go out, i always say, 'don't worry about the family, be careful outside, and return home safely.' every word of advice from my family is a solid backing for me to move forward, allowing me to realize my dreams without distraction." dong junzhou said that he misses his family more during every festive season. he understands that although it is difficult to be loyal and filial at the same time, serving the people and the country is another way to express filial piety to his parents.
“5+2” day and night protection
with the experience of being a soldier, dong junzhou has deeply engraved the military style, military spirit and military faith in his bones. he maintains the excellent qualities of a soldier, such as courage, perseverance, pursuit of justice and fearlessness of difficulties, which has enabled him to forge ahead in different stages of life and positions for 35 years.
after 2000, dong junzhou, who had strong military professional capabilities, served successively as deputy captain of the sixth brigade (special police brigade) of the criminal police detachment of guilin municipal public security bureau, instructor, captain of the third brigade, secretary of the brigade discipline inspection commission, and deputy captain.

dong junzhou applied the skills and tactics he learned in the army to the training of public security special police, and provided comprehensive training in physical fitness, formations, grappling, fighting, shooting and other aspects to enhance the comprehensive capabilities of criminal investigation special police. at the same time, he insisted on managing the team in a militarized manner.

in may 1999, not long after the guiliu expressway, the first expressway in guangxi, was opened to traffic, a group of armed robbers flocked to the guiliu expressway to rob people on the road, committing a number of vicious armed robberies of truck drivers.
"i had just started working in the swat detachment when i encountered a case like this. i was a little nervous." after finding out the gang's whereabouts, dong junzhou was ordered to lead the swat team to launch a capture operation. faced with the vicious armed gangsters, he showed no fear. he kicked open the hotel door and was the first to rush into the room. he and his comrades captured four suspects in one fell swoop, seized three guns on the spot, and was awarded the first-class individual merit.
after that, dong junzhou and his colleagues experienced many face-to-face encounters with desperate criminals. they always kept in mind to put the interests of the people first. "i love what i do. my dream is to be a policeman and work hard for it. i enjoy it no matter how hard or tiring it is. every time we solve a case and the suspect is punished by law, we are very happy."

faced with major cases, dong junzhou never hesitated or retreated, and has won many honorary medals. he solved more than 1,000 criminal cases of various types, arrested more than 800 criminal suspects, and destroyed nearly 100 criminal gangs. he was awarded the first-class individual merit once, the second-class individual merit once, and the third-class individual merit three times. in 2020, he was awarded the honorary title of "outstanding retired soldier of guangxi zhuang autonomous region" and in 2024, he was awarded the honorary title of "national model retired soldier".
