beijing news (reporter liu yang, correspondent jiao defang) on september 20, tianjin's first digital course, tianjin university's "introduction to artificial intelligence", officially started. the university launched a general course on artificial intelligence to more than 4,000 freshmen in more than 30 smart classrooms on the two campuses. the reporter learned from tianjin university that "introduction to artificial intelligence" consists of eight classes, hoping that students can form a preliminary understanding of artificial intelligence and stimulate their interest and curiosity in artificial intelligence.
"introduction to artificial intelligence" is led by professor hu qinghua from the school of artificial intelligence of tianjin university, and co-created by 8 professors in the fields of artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary disciplines. it is also taught by a team of 30 professional teachers from 13 colleges including the school of intelligent computing, school of precision instruments, school of automation, and school of science.

in the first class, hu qinghua conducted real-life teaching in the panoramic teaching space of tianjin university, combining a high-definition and high-resolution 360-degree panoramic large screen. more than 4,000 freshmen were in more than 30 smart classrooms on the two campuses and attended classes at the same time. the interactive tools with the professor included naked-eye 3d, panoramic smart blackboard, panoramic vr, ai teaching assistants and other ai teaching aids.
"we hope to use easy-to-understand language to lead students from different professional backgrounds to learn ai from the shallower to the deeper, in an interesting and easy way." hu qinghua introduced that "introduction to artificial intelligence" consists of eight lessons. the content integrates multidisciplinary case analysis and socialized collaborative learning models to popularize the basic concepts of artificial intelligence, major schools, historical trends, and technical challenges, laying the foundation for their subsequent in-depth study and exploration in the field of artificial intelligence.
hu qinghua introduced that at present, a large number of new engineering majors, such as intelligent medical engineering, intelligent power grid, intelligent construction, smart chemical engineering, new energy vehicles, etc., have entered the enrollment catalogs of major universities. it can be foreseen that artificial intelligence will penetrate more comprehensively and deeply into people's daily life, entertainment and work in the near future, as well as into all aspects of industrial and agricultural production and social governance. it is an inevitable requirement to adapt to the development of the times for students to master certain basic knowledge of artificial intelligence, understand and learn to use the basic principles and basic tools of artificial intelligence, and cultivate students' artificial intelligence thinking mode.

"artificial intelligence is a large field. it is not possible for a single discipline to 'solve all' problems. the biggest difficulties are the organization of courses and the allocation of teachers," said xia shuqian, deputy director of the academic affairs office of tianjin university. in order to allow freshmen from different academic backgrounds to take the same class well, the school recruited 50 "intelligent tutors" from different disciplines across the school, and divided the time of each class into 30% and 70%. in addition to the school-wide live broadcast interaction, the remaining half an hour is used for students to continue to receive lectures from the "intelligent tutors" of the college in different smart classrooms, truly integrating ai technology into their professional studies.
the reporter learned from tianjin university that artificial intelligence empowering education and teaching will be the school's reform direction for a long period of time in the future. the school is promoting the "intelligence + education and teaching" quality upgrade implementation plan. in this new semester, the school has upgraded the ai smart teaching software for 140 smart classrooms in the two campuses. this general education course is also open to tianjin universities at the same time, and will be shared nationwide through the wisdom tree platform.
