harbin ice hockey arena, which was once the venue for the 3rd asian winter games in 1996, is also an important venue for the 9th asian winter games. recently, the renovation was completed and a test match was held. in order to prepare for this test match, qin xulin, director of the engineering department of harbin urban development investment group co., ltd., and his colleagues have been working hard here for the past few months.
in accordance with the principle of frugality and post-match utilization, the organizing committee determined the two major competition areas of harbin city ice competition area and yabuli snow competition area. with full efforts and efficient promotion, a series of work has now yielded fruitful results.
bai zhiguo, deputy secretary-general of the asian winter games executive committee and director of the harbin sports bureau, introduced that under the strong leadership of the organizing committee and with the strong support of the state general administration of sports and various state ministries and commissions, the preparations have entered the critical sprint stage. the relevant departments of the province and the city have coordinated and cooperated efficiently, and all work has been carried out in an orderly manner. the overall progress is in line with expectations.
"all competition venues have been upgraded and renovated in terms of refrigeration, dehumidification, lighting, heating, network, and functional rooms based on the use of old venues. the maintenance and renovation project is nearing completion. among them, the harbin ice hockey arena and the yabuli competition area skiing and mountaineering projects have been completed and accepted, and the other venues are scheduled to be completed by the end of september." bai zhiguo said that the executive committee has now established 5 competition venue (group) operation teams, adhered to the principle of territorialization, and selected 152 outstanding local cadres to work in the core areas of each competition venue.
in addition, in terms of competition organization, the executive committee has been working closely with the international/asian sports federations to identify 12 technical representatives and 1 technical representative assistant. registration is also in progress. currently, 34 national (regional) olympic committees have registered for the harbin asian winter games, which is the largest number of registrations in the history of the asian winter games. among them, china, japan, and south korea have registered for all sub-events. it is expected that 14 individual event test matches will be held from september this year to january next year.
as the registration work is in full swing, the registration and certification work is also advancing steadily. wang dazhi, director of the registration center of the security department of the asian winter games executive committee, introduced that registration and certification is a key concern of the olympic council of asia. at present, the security and legal affairs department is fully promoting the registration and certification work in accordance with the host city contract and the asian winter games milestone task timetable.
in september, at the asian winter games registration center located on the 25th floor of harbin investment building in songbei district, harbin, rows of certificate-making machines were ready and staff were busy reviewing the information of registrants.
"on july 20, 36 volunteers from northeast agricultural university entered the registration center and officially took up their posts; after the registration of the external customer group is completed on october 8, batch document production will be initiated; and identity registration cards will begin to be mailed in batches starting from november 1," said wang dazhi.
the arrival and departure service guarantee work is related to the first impression and final memory of the participants of the asian winter games. cao ru, director of the external liaison department of the asian winter games executive committee and first-level inspector of harbin city, introduced that the relevant preparations for arrival and departure have already begun. a special arrival and departure command center has been established with deep integration of multiple departments such as civil aviation, airports, railways, public security, and customs. a professional arrival and departure service team has been formed, and an arrival and departure management system has been specially developed.
"according to the overall arrangements for the preparatory work, the arrival and departure service time for the asian winter games will be from january 27 to february 17, 2025. by then, according to the arrival and departure information filled in by each participant in the arrival and departure management system, special channels will be set up at the official entry and exit port harbin taiping international airport and the railway stations involved in the asian winter games (harbin station, harbin west station and yabuli west station). a professional team will provide entry and exit assistance, identity registration card activation, process guidance, and advance check-in of return luggage and other services." cao ru said.
it is reported that the meeting of heads of delegations will be held in harbin from september 23 to september 24, which is an important milestone task of the 9th asian winter games. during the meeting, 20 business areas related to the competition services, anti-doping, registration and certification of this event will be discussed, and field inspections will be carried out at the venues for the opening and closing ceremonies, competition venues, athletes' villages and other event venues.
bai zhiguo introduced that a series of theme activities will be held in october for the 100-day countdown to the asian winter games, and the torch relay will be launched in january next year. many major events are being prepared intensively and orderly.
