cctv news: beidou system is a global satellite navigation system independently developed by my country and is one of the four major global satellite navigation systems recognized by the united nations. this morning (september 19), the two beidou satellites just launched are the last two backup satellites of the beidou-3 satellite system and will play an important role in improving the stability of the beidou system.

the role of backup satellites: improving the stability of the beidou system

in addition to backup satellites, the beidou-3 system now has a total of 30 networking satellites in orbit. among them, 24 satellites are distributed on three orbital planes of the medium earth orbit, 3 satellites are operating in geostationary orbits, and another 3 satellites are operating in inclined geosynchronous orbits. most of the networking satellites have been in orbit for 6 years.

backup satellite conducts technical verification and exploration for system upgrade

while strengthening the beidou network service capabilities, scientists are also exploring the next generation of satellite technology. as most satellites are designed to last for 10 years, the beidou system has begun to consider upgrading and deploying network satellites.

my country's beidou application industry has achieved rapid development

from the idea of proposing it in the 1980s to the official launch of beidou-1 construction in 1994, several generations of "beidou people" have gone through the "three-step" development process of beidou system construction after more than 30 years of practical exploration. at present, my country's beidou system services have achieved global coverage, and the beidou application industry has also achieved rapid development.

the development of my country's beidou system has gone through three stages: at the end of 2000, the beidou-1 system was completed to provide services to china; at the end of 2012, the beidou-2 system was completed to provide services to the asia-pacific region; in 2020, the beidou-3 system was completed to provide services to the world.

the excellent performance of the beidou system is due to the three-orbit hybrid networking mode. the satellites are distributed in orbits 21,000 kilometers and 36,000 kilometers from the earth. through mutual cooperation, they provide global users with all-weather, all-day, high-precision positioning, navigation and timing services.

in recent years, my country's beidou application industry has maintained a high growth and rapid development trend. in 2023, the total output value of my country's satellite navigation and location services industry will reach 536.2 billion yuan, an increase of 7.09% over 2022.

my country will build beidou integrated positioning, navigation and timing system

the completion of the beidou system’s “three-step” strategy is not the end of beidou. in the next step, my country will build a beidou comprehensive positioning, navigation and timing system to better serve global users.

the successful construction of the beidou-3 system has laid a solid foundation for the development of the next generation beidou system. according to the plan, my country will build and improve a more ubiquitous, more integrated and more intelligent integrated positioning, navigation and timing system by 2035. the so-called "integrated positioning, navigation and timing system" is a stronger, safer and more reliable system that takes the beidou system as the core and foundation, covering indoors to outdoors, deep sea to deep space.

to build a comprehensive positioning, navigation and timing system, we will first plan to build a low-orbit constellation system based on the beidou system by 2025, further expand the coverage of high-precision services, and realize the centimeter-level positioning service of beidou shared by the world. at the same time, we must further overcome the technical difficulties of weak satellite navigation signals and easy interference, and realize underwater navigation, indoor navigation and deep space navigation.
